Why bespoke cakes are a luxury in 2026
It’s not just flour, sugar, and butter anymore, especially with the cost of living crisis we face.
Every cake comes with rising ingredient costs, expensive packaging, cake boxes, boards, toppers, labels, and high-quality decorations all of which people rarely see.
Then there’s the running costs: electricity for long oven times, fridges running constantly, cleaning supplies, tools, and maintenance. And of course, hours of skilled labour designing, baking, decorating, and carefully finishing every detail by hand.
When it’s all added up, many bakers are often earning close to minimum wage for the time spent.
So yes bespoke cakes are special, personal, and made with care… but they’re also a true luxury in 2026. Not just because of what you see, but because of everything you don’t.
