A rusty bucket full of Thorn perry pears. Half a tonne from a stunning traditional orchard in Upleadon, a beautifully secluded part of northern Gloucestershire, picked by Mike Manning yesterday - it is his orchard - and milled and pressed today.
324 litres produced, with a Specific Gravity of 1.058 - respectable, meaning the perry will be something in the region of 7.2% once it has fermented. The Barn was infused with a delightfully fresh aroma all afternoon.
