*** CLOSED TO NEW BOOKINGS ***

As some of you already know I’ve made the bittersweet decision to step away from my cake business to start a new chapter outside of the kitchen. After nearly 15 years it’s been an amazing journey that has lasted far longer than I initially intended and I’ve loved every minute. I’ve made hundreds of cakes for every type of occasion, seen many trends come and go, and covered off pretty much every theme imaginable!

It all started from being inspired by a ‘Noddy car’ cake tutorial by Debbie Brown Cakes that I spotted in a magazine in WH Smiths. I made that cake for my then 1-year-old then started attending the local British Sugarcraft Guild where I met the loveliest, creative ladies and learnt so much so quickly. By discovering a fascination with sugarcraft, having grown up with my mum’s home baking, plus needing something to fit around my children – Cakery Bay was born.

I want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to some people who have supported my business along the way: The BSG ladies (especially Jenny, Claire and Margaret), Paul for bringing my logo to life, Al for being my website ‘manager’ and sorting out my techy stuff, all my friends that have been my cheerleaders, my social media followers, my awesome family for always putting up with the kitchen chaos - and of course every single customer for trusting me to be a part of so many memorable moments. I’ve been so lucky having the BEST customers – thank you so, so much!

Goodbye for now and keep celebrating with cake!

Best wishes,
Louisa x

(PS. They say when one door closes another opens… I can share that Laura of ‘Bakerman’ will be opening the doors to her new cake shop in Brixworth very soon. She makes stunning cakes and sweet treats so do give her your support).

This cake was raffled at a friend's fundraising event last weekend in aid of Sarcoma UK and in the memory of local lady Martine who devastatingly lost her fight to this rare cancer.

Ray of sunshine Martine loved a party, a pop of leopard print and often finished her messages with "Big Loves" so I endeavoured to create a personalised design bringing these elements together. White chocolate and raspberry on the inside.

Another novelty centrepiece! This one was a 9 inch tall salted caramel sponge 'whisky barrel' which my customer was going to add whisky miniatures to for the full effect.

Campervan!

It had been a little while since I'd made a shaped novelty cake. This was a scaled down edible replica of the birthday boy's VW T2 campervan ordered as a surprise for his party on Saturday. I hope he loved it!

All the angles of the finished little pink cake. On trend vintage piped style with a modern flourish 🎀.
On the inside, classic sponge layered with vanilla buttercream and morello cherry conserve.

It took a while but the trend of the vintage style cake has grown on me - especially when they're as pretty as this 💖.

Created using Karen Davies Sugarcraft moulds to achieve the piped effect in sugarpaste (no messy buttercream fingers!)

This was work in progress - finished cake will follow.

A pretty, modern cake for one of my lovely repeat customers this week.
On the inside is my delicious zesty lemon sponge layered with lemon curd and buttercream and on the outside is Belgian white chocolate ganache carefully layered in a pink ombré effect.
