THE 6 SECOND CV TEST
Scary but true. Most Hiring Managers simply don't have the time to read every CV word for word, so a quick skim tells them whether or not they think you're worth progressing to the next stage. Some key things to remember when writing your CV:
✓ Choose an easy to read, clear & professional format
✓ Tailor your CV to each role you're applying for
✓ Have a short summary section at the top outlining any skills that are essential for the role you're applying for
✓ Have a professional looking email address (i.e. NOT [email protected])
✓ Keep your CV to a maximum of two pages

Hiring Managers are experienced in sifting through CVs, and they can always make out who's taken the time to tailor their CV to the specific requirements of the role, and who is likely applying for anything/everything using the same CV, and therefore unfortunately doesn't come across as motivated.
Using the same CV to apply for every job can also leave you more open to overlooking mistakes, as you likely won't have checked over it before submitting.
It's really worth spending that extra time tailoring your CV/application addressing the specifics in the job description, and could be the difference between getting an interview or not!

Something I've been reflecting on a lot over the past week or so, in these strange times. It depends how you look at it, but one way is that we've been given the gift of time and stillness in an otherwise busy, crazy lifestyle.
I've been enjoying slowing down a bit and spending more quality time with family, playing games, reading, baking, working in the sunshine in the garden etc. And I'll be making a conscious effort to keep doing so when life goes back to normal.
Business is open as usual, so please get in touch if you've been thinking of updating your CV ready for a change when this is all over, or you need some confidence in the interview prep department.

These days, soft skills are as important (sometimes more) than technical skills and will be assessed during an interview. Examples of soft skills include: communication, teamwork, time management and problem solving.
Think of a good example from your experience that clearly demonstrates your abilities in these areas, and read the job description carefully to ensure you cover others necessary for the role.

As a general rule, yes, unless you're specifically asked not to. You should always send a short, polite and personal thank you email to each interviewer after you've met them reiterating your interest in the position, no longer than 24 hours later.
