As we Celebrate the 175th Birthday 🎁 of
This weekend, We though we would take a look back at Donuts at Durham over the years.
Back in the early 90s John Wright pictured below started selling Dinky donuts at the market from his small white donut trailer just on the corner of of bells fish & chips and NatWest back.
He was well known in Durham by fellow traders and locals for his regular weekly jokes and being the life and sole of the market aswell as his donut trailer which had definitely seen better days, however this didn’t stop John from turning up to the market every Saturday come rain or sun with his jolly personality and regular jokes the market become part of his life. John wright was from Grasswell and was born into a showmen family which worked on travelling funfairs so selling donuts at Durham market was a natural business for John coming from a showmen family.
John traded from the early 1990s till 2023 when his Ill health
Made it more and more difficult for him to continue on the market, and in April 2023 he officially stopped and Navdeep from Dipping Donuts stepped in his shoes to continue on selling donuts at Durham market.
Dipping Donuts started in 2009 in Newcastle and already had a strong base and following in the northeast so it felt natural to take over John at Durham and continue selling donuts. We have now built the donut following in Durham bigger than ever and hope to continue in for many more years to come. 🍩🍩🍩
We look forward to celebrating the 175th birthday of the market and the history of the market this Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
