Wendy Witch Narrowboat Tarot Readings. Handfasting & Pagan Weddings. Baby Naming Ceremonies. Hello. I'm Wendy. I'm a White Witch and Celebrant. I have been pagan all my life.

My beliefs and skills have been passed down through generations and I'm proud of my heritage. I live aboard Narrowboat Merly B with my husband and a mad dog. We chug up and down the Grand Union Canal conducting Pagan Ceremonies, creating Magic Spells and giving Tarot readings. I enjoy reading, gardening (on the roof), and walking the countryside towpaths.

If you are in the Milton Keynes area, give me a call to find out where I am moored. I am always happy to put the kettle on, especially if you bring cake.

At the end of the working week I like to go for a good old stomp to clear my head, breathe in the fresh air and embrace nature's gifts.

I walked without Henry πŸ• today. He's feeling his age and can't keep up so we do several little bimbles for him throughout the day.

Spot the heron.

Lovely Tarot Readings on board Narrowboat Merly B today with friends old and new. Situations clarified, problems solved and brand new beginnings too!

I have been reading with the Rider-Waite Smith Tarot, among others. It's the traditional deck that most people associate with Tarot. I tend to use it for newcomers, general summaries and also for serious life-changing questions as it really gets to the heart of the matter.

The deck was created by Arthur Edward Waite and published by William Rider & Sons in 1909.
Waite wrote many books including The Book of Ceremonial Magic, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry and Key to the Tarot, which is the official companion to the Rider-Waite Smith deck.

β€’ Pamela Colman Smith β€’

But it is the artist of this deck, Pamela Colman Smith, who really fascinates me. Her deep-rooted emotional approach to the card images is ritualistic and imaginative. A very independent woman, she led a colourful and extraordinary life.

She published many books and created many works of art, yet died a pauper and has an unmarked grave. What an amazing legacy she has left for us.

πŸ”₯ Fire Scrying and Divination πŸ”₯

It's chilly! Many of us are lighting our fires and spending quite a lot of time staring at the flames. I've just thrown another log on.

Autumnal evenings are perfect for fire gazing, divination and increasing your own magical gifts and abilities.

Scrying is the act of staring into something for the purpose of divination. You can use a mirror, crystal ball, a bowl of water. However, when the nights are chilly, the fire or candle flame is perfect.

Fire divination is easy. Staring into flames and letting your mind wander is something most of us have done. If you don't have a real fire in your home you can use candle flames or light a bonfire outside.

Get comfortable, sit still and gaze into the flames. Breathe slowly and evenly. Quiet your mind, relax and wait. If you're looking for specific answers, fix your mind on the subject as you gaze. You could chant if you like,

"Blazing fire as you dance,
Give me now the secret glance.
Call upon my second sight;
Make me psychic with your light.
Blazing fire shining bright,
Give me now the second sight."

You may have images appear to you or a suggestion of images, or thoughts may pop into your mind. Trust in your subconscious, your intuition and you will begin to see. Believe in yourself and your abilities and it will happen.

I quite often fall asleep while gazing at my wood burner, I like to use the dreams that follow for divination too.

The Wheel Turns, The Veil Thins...
..the History of Samhain (Hallowe'en)

πŸ‚ Samhain means Summer's End and the Pagan New Year begins on November 1st. Pagans begin their celebrations during the day on October 31st, the fires within the home are extinguished and families will clean out their homes to clear out the old and make way for the new.

πŸ’ƒ At sunset on October 31 a bonfire is lit. The people gather around the fire to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wear costumes and dance around the bonfire. Many of these dances tell stories or play out the cycles of life and death.

πŸ”₯ When the celebration is over, each family takes a torch or burning ember from the sacred bonfire and return to their own home. The home fires that have been extinguished during the day are re-lit by the flame of the sacred bonfire to help protect the dwelling and it's inhabitants during the coming winter. These fires are kept burning night and day during the next several months. It's believed that if a home loses it's fire, tragedy and troubles would soon follow.

🍞 With the hearth fires lit, the families place food and drink outside their doors. This is to appease the roaming spirits who might play tricks on the family.

🀎 Samhain is a Sabbat to honour our loved ones who came before us and to celebrate the dark time of the year. The veil between us and our ancestors is at it's thinnest. If you’ve ever researched genealogy, or if you’ve had a loved one die in the past year, this is the perfect night to celebrate their memory. If we’re fortunate, they will return to communicate with us from beyond the veil, and offer advice, protection and guidance for the upcoming year.

✝️ During the eighth century the Catholic Church decided to use November 1st as All Saints Day. The Pagans were already celebrating that day anyway, so it made sense to use it as a church holiday. All Saints became the festival to honour any saint who didn’t already have a day of his or her own. The mass which was said on All Saints was called Allhallowmas – the mass of all those who are hallowed.

πŸŽͺ Phantomwise Tarot πŸŽͺ

It has turned decidedly chilly so Tarot readings were on board today.

πŸ–€ The Phantomwise Tarot made an appearance. It is based upon The Night Circus; a wondrous, magical work of fiction by Erin Morgenstern. The perfect novel to curl up with on an autumn evening.

πŸ–€ This black and white deck is indeed a Wonderful Circus, a Nocturnal Phantasia. It is a mix of myth and fairy tale, where each individual you meet may be an illusion, a reflection, or distortion...

πŸ–€ ...the Fool disappears down the rabbit hole, The Hierophant and The Lovers emerge from dark skies and swirling clouds. The ravens may not be what they seem. The curious cats are more cunning than they appear...

πŸ–€ I love the Chariot, Death, Six of Wands, Ten of Cups, but it is impossible to choose a favourite.

πŸ”₯ Oh, and Henry has found the fire πŸ˜‚

It's been a busy few days, lots of Tarot readings, lashings of tea and loads of cake! πŸ«–πŸ°πŸ˜‹

This deck has been popular, the Tarot of the Cat People. I love the rich colours, the opulence and the detail.

The artist took inspiration not only from her love of felines, but also from the architecture, the people and the traditional costumes from her travels in Europe, Mexico and America.

Just look at their gorgeous gowns, I would love to go swishing up and down the towpath in one of these!

The facial expressions are delightful, on both the felines and the Cat People. There are many different cats depicted, from fluffy kittens to huge powerful beasts; the Knight of Swords!

The Death card (which does not predict physical death but transformation or new life) is very clever and always makes me smile.

Now, time for bed. πŸ’€
