Modern Provider Bakery in Margate

BREAD / CAKES / PASTRIES / MILK / EGGS / PROVISIONS

22/10/2025

Now I’ve got a much better ‘work / life balance’ decided to put the dough down and brush off some of the old garment making skills.

Have been wanting to make a tailored suit / blazer jacket for years but could never quite find the time to perfect the fit. Everything off the peg is always too baggy on the waist or too wide on the sleeves or packed with padding to make you look like a superhero. I’m not too into ‘power dressing’, reminds me too much of Thatcher. I wanted something that referenced formal wear but with a bit more of a casual feel.

To make this I cut up a jacket from the charity shop and made a pattern from it, which I then stitched up and altered to fit, then back to the pattern to adjust. I didn’t add any shoulder pads, or ott details - just a simple fitted silhouette.

The end result is this relaxed blazer with patch pockets which is fully French seamed as I don’t have an overlocker.

Thanks to for your pinning skills on the early trials.

Thank you so much everyone for an absolutely fantastic day, couldn’t have wished for a better send off.

The biggest thanks to the MP team - Ellie, Lisa, Nik, Izaak & Immie. Without you guys the bakery wouldn’t have been half as fun, positive and successful. I’m going to miss working with you so much.

This post is for all of you ❤️

LAST DAY TOMORROW!

Something no one really talks about running a business is the mental energy it takes….the nagging self doubt and questioning…I guess you can use social media platforms for likes and instant validation but it doesn’t really mean anything does it?

These last few weeks have been SO touching and overwhelming with the amount of genuine in person interactions with people who have taken the time to tell me how much the bakery has and does mean to them. It honestly means everything. I love you all ❤️

It’s with [very!] mixed emotions that I write this, but it’s time to announce that I am closing the bakery. This is a decision that I’ve been going over for the past 6 months or so…and then an opportunity came along that really cemented it in my mind. Sometimes I feel you just get to a point where you want to make some changes, face new challenges and prioritise different aspects of life. I’m 40 this year for Christs sake.

Setting up the bakery to the point where it is today has been an incredible journey, a huge learning curve and at times extremely stressful. However I feel immense pride that I set up Modern Provider from nothing, baking with a domestic oven in my flat and walking deliveries around Margate. My main aim was to integrate with the food community here, and to create the best products I could at the fairest prices. I feel on the whole that I achieved that, and have been proud to work with some fantastic local businesses as well as fantastic customers. I send so much thanks to each and every one of you because you’ve made the bakery what it is and pushed me to better myself again and again. I thank everyone who’s worked at the bakery too, those people have been the face of Modern Provider, rather than me, and those friendly faces are who greet you each time you come in to buy something. Margate has changed so much in recent years and I feel happy that the bakery has felt like a constant and consistent entity throughout that.

Running a business is not something to enter into lightly and I genuinely take my hat off and have deep respect for any local business out there doing their own thing.

With the bakery closing, it means the space will become available for another business to take on. Everything is up for discussion but there is an opportunity for the space to be left with most of the basic equipment to run a food business easily. If you are at all interested, please send me a direct message or pop in to have a chat and a look round.

The last day will be Saturday June 7th, and I hope to make it a celebration. Also, if you’ve always fancied something from the ‘wall of fame’ or any of my other tat now’s the time to make me an offer as I don’t really have room in my house for it all…

Thank you again everyone for the last 8 years. I’m still going to be baking, just in a slightly different set-up, so I’m sure I’ll see you around
