Wow Oh Wow our last week has been extremely emotional & heart warming. We have both cried many tears on making the decision to close our beloved Bakery, but you all have had us crying even more tears with your most wonderful comments & out pouring of love & appreciation towards us.
We have received many lovely Thank You cards, some handmade from children, many gift’s, flower’s, champagne, wine, chocolates & a beautiful handmade picture. We are both truly touched & extremely grateful for all your support over the years & on the difficult decision we had to make.
We have really enjoyed being part of the Manningtree Community & have many wonderful memories of which we would like to share a few with you.
The Wonderful Vibrant Christmas Markets, where eclectic stalls would align the whole of the High street & each shop would dress up in Christmas themed costumes. The High Street came alive & was truly magical. This was always our favourite time of the year. We have attached photos ❤️
The children from Lawford Primary School arranged by Mrs Rattray would visit us once a year to experience “ Life as a Baker”. We would provide the excited children with sticky dough & show them how to mold by hand. As you can imagine there were lot’s of squeals of delight & laughter as flour covered them all. We always looked forward to their visits.
Save the Library Campaign was extremely important for us to support so that all children & adults have free access to books.
Then Lockdown hit, what a massive shock to us all. It was extremely important that we supported the community, so we restructured our business around covid. It quickly became evident that we needed to support people who were self isolating, the elderly & the vulnerable with home deliveries, as we had received many messages & phone calls from worried relatives regarding their loved ones not being able to receive essential food items.
We certainly did not have the staff to deliver, so we put out a Facebook message for volunteers for help with deliveries. We were flooded with offers of help & so deliveries to peoples homes was able to go ahead. This was definitely a lifeline for many people, also a chance to see a friendly face & have a chat.
We are so truly Thankful to all our wonderful volunteers, we could not have done it without you .
It was also extremely important to us that we supported our local NHS Hospital in Colchester. We provided them with many boxes of our famous Jam Doughnuts to say Thank You for their amazing work.
V E Day 75th Anniversary
Still in the midst of Lockdown , we wanted to keep up peoples spirits. So we decided to create an Afternoon Tea especially for this important occasion. We were overwhelmed with the response we received, it gave the community a chance to unite & celebrate with neighbours & friends over zoom. The weather was just glorious, it was such a wonderful day.
On the 3rd October 21 we were presented by our fabulous Mayor of Manningtree Michelle with “an extraordinary community engagement award”for supporting our community during Lockdown. We feel very privileged to have received this.
Community is and has always been extremely important to us. Thank You for allowing us the privilege to be part of all of your lives.
Thank You to all our wonderful local suppliers, whom many of you we have know for 37 years.
Thank You to all our staff past & present who helped make us who we are today.
Thank you all for the most treasured memories, laughter & especially your support over the last 37 years. We will miss you all
Lot’s of love
David & Tanya
