New year can be a difficult time for lots of people, for lots of reasons. I'm currently hiding away from all the noise about making changes, losing weight and being more adventurous - it can all do one.

Earlier in the year I joked with a colleague over some tarot cards and then pulled "The Tower", a card about sudden upheaval. Little was I to know that 2025 would bring massive and unexpected personal change for me.

2025 reminded me that your foundations can be a strong place to return to, when things feel tricky. For Bread and Roses in 2026 that's all about more fierce compassion and collaboration. Expect more no nonsense approaches to mental health, neuro-affirming practice, creativity and slow relational healing.

Just as you don't need to wait for it to turn midnight for a fresh start, perhaps you don't need to let it all fall down to build things up again. Perhaps you also have some strong foundations that can guide you through.

However NYE is landing, I wish you a gentle and compassionate start to the new year and lots of comfort if 2025 has also kicked you in the arse.

Borrowing some words from Lemn Sissay, lets keep it simple, one day at a time. Rest awhile, I'll see you back out there. Warmly Vicky

You might know that before I was a counsellor I worked in the heritage sector. So as a self confessed museum geek, I'm looking forward to collaborating with Engage again in March. This time we're diving deep into creating neuro-friendly and compassionate spaces for teams and visitors.

We'll be exploring the nuances of the neurodiversity paradigm, executive functioning, communication, sensory profiles and more. I hope this will give plenty of space for anyone working in the sector who wants to explore their own identity, and ways of supporting their wellbeing at work. There'll also be plenty of ideas for anyone facilitating, planning, supporting teams or supporting policy.

Each day will include optional co-working space for your own neuro-friendly priorities and plenty of screen breaks.

Please pass onto any arts colleagues who might be looking for a good value, 2 day training course. This will be delivered online but with lots of adjustments for non-screen time and comfortable participation.

Would be great to see some of you there!

This programme of two online workshops will consider approaches to developing compassionate and neuro-friendly spaces within the sector.

Traffic to the page has been increasing massively recently, so I thought I should stop by and say hello...thank you for visiting! I'm Vicky, a counsellor and facilitator based in Huddersfield.

I often work with people who self define as highly sensitive, neurodivergent or alternative in some way. You may think, feel and experience the world differently and that can come with huge ups and downs.

I'm passionate about helping you to befriend your feelings and understanding why you think, feel and behave in the ways you do. I love collaborating with people who are questioning their identity, their next move or their place in the bigger scheme of things.

All of you and your uniqueness is welcome here.

I'm also lucky to collaborate with lots of brilliant cultural organisations around themes of trauma responsive practice, supporting wellbeing, and having brave conversations about the past, present and future.

Over the next few months I will be working to update the practice website and social media, to give you more of flavour of Bread and Roses. In the meantime, if you are interested in collaborating, please visit the practice website at www.breadandrosescounselling.com for more information and to get in touch.

Warmly
Vicky

Do you notice any of these to be true for you? These can be sign that we are moving out of our comfortable, safe and social places into feeling dysregulated. Often we keep pushing through until our bodies force us to rest through illness, extreme distress or depression. I thought this was a great check list - how are you feeling right now? If any of these are true for you, can you work out what you need a little bit more or less of right now?

Hello! I've been very quiet on here lately! I just wanted to pop by, blow away the dust and check in - how are you? If you're feeling frazzled at this point in the year, here's your reminder to take a break and know that you are more than good enough, just as you are.

If you are visiting for the first time during the festive break, welcome. I'm Vicky (she/her) and I'm a counsellor and facilitator based in West Yorkshire. I work in person in Oldham and remotely by Zoom with people all over the UK.

I've got a particular interest in working with anyone who feels they fall outside of "the norm" around issues of showing up courageously in your relationships, work, and life.

I'm passionate about fierce compassion, boundaries, leaning into our messy edges and the power of no in a tricky world that wants to keep us getting it perfect, staying strong, and trying hard.

My door is open to all, and I collaborate most often with creatives, rebels, the LGBTQIA and GRSD communities, helpers and people who experienced growing up in dysfunctional families.

If you're looking to find your inner spark, I'd love to have a conversation with you about collaborating.

I will be out of the office from December 16th until January 9th but will respond to any messages when I am back.

Warmly
Vicky
