Do you wanna build an oast house? (Out of cake!)
For those of you who are wondering what that is, they’re mainly found in Kent and East Sussex and were used to dry hops in. They’re now predominantly houses- how funky to have round rooms!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing how this went from a scale drawing and roof template to a completed cake - vanilla and chocolate with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream and white chocolate ganache, large enough to serve 50 people!

The cake shed will be back open next Friday! The weather is behaving itself again (phew!) which means it’s time to share...

A few days ago I did something scary - I spent a day learning how to do something I really wasn’t confident at and had struggled with for ages.

I don’t know how many times I put a layer of ganache on this cake, but wow it was hard work. So worth doing though, I’m really excited to see the finish I can get now!

The learning doesn’t stop there though, many hours of practice are still needed!

So next time you receive a quote for a cake and wonder why it’s more than you thought it would be, remember the hours of practice that go into the skills needed to make them 🥰

The forecast for this weekend is around 30 degrees! 🔥 not a good temperature to keep cakes in the shed so I’ve decided not to go ahead this coming weekend.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Fordham! Absolutely stunning venue with beautiful weather, perfect for an outdoor ceremony 💕 always super special to bake for occasions like this. The tiers were lemon with raspberry coulis, vanilla with strawberry jam and caramel with caramel sauce (this one did not want to behave in the heat and we had to have words 😂) with some gluten free cupcakes on the side

Due to being wiped out with a couple of infections the cake shed won’t be open tomorrow, but I’m really hoping over the weekend the antibiotics will have done their job and I’ll be able to make some cakes again! I’ll keep you posted 🙂
