So this is a serious post - one that Iāve really hesitated about. Letās start by saying that most of our customers are delightful - we love seeing you, and we love being a small part of your lives. This is not aimed at you.
Lately though, thereās been an upturn in people trying to come in early, I mean REALLY early - and when we say weāre not quite ready, being downright rude about it.
I get you can see delicious things. I get you want them now. But please understand weāre still setting up, there are things to do. We open as soon as weāre ready, more often than not before our advertised time. But if youāre coming 20 or 30 minutes early, most likely weāll politely ask you to come back a bit later.
If youāve just walked in, not realising, thatās ok - weāve all been there. But to stand and try to insist we serve you, being argumentative, or even just pleading āI only want one thingā is just not fair.
Coming back later and angrily having another go at the front of house team is unforgivable. Walking out and telling them to āarrangeā to have a sourdough ready for you early each Friday? Nope. Not happening.
Sadly this isnāt an isolated incident.
My team work so hard. You may have noticed some new faces in the last few weeks. Theyāve all done so well to be up and running really quickly. They set up within about 15 minutes - quite a feat - and they deal with 100-150 customers a day, and they do it really well. Iām so proud of them all: Nichol, Jayden, Jemima and Efa.
Thank you to everyone who has been so welcoming, and patient, and kind. Really - seeing familiar faces each day is why we do this. Seeing children grow up, hearing whatās going on with you, celebrating and commiserating with you. This is the kind of bakery we want to be.
So to those few people who donāt get that - itās simple: donāt be rude, OK? Remember there are actual human beings on the other side of the counter.
Sorry for the long post everyone. But sometimes it needs to be said.
