The Penny Bun Bakehouse John Spillings set up The Penny Bun Bakehouse in 2010 with the aim of getting traditional, handcraft

Having trained as a chef for over 12 years in many of the top Michelin star restaurants across the country, his love for bread and patisserie was discovered whilst working for Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. Inspired by French techniques and passion for real bread, he moved back home to Suffolk to open a wholesale bakery, crafting baked goods for hotels, restaurants, gastro pubs and delicatessens in the local area.

We are back, firing on all bakery oven cylinders, after a great week with Johnny fully immersed in Daddy daycare duties & a few of us on holiday. Wasn’t the weather amazing!

Thanks everyone who came to see us festival, great turnout as always, and thanks also to everyone who got their preorders in on time at both the Box & Bakehouse. We really appreciate all of you.

This week we’re back at both & Bakehouse, as well as for their monthly farmers market. Lots of great bakes available including;

- Ukrainian flaxseed sourdough

- Slow roasted garlic, rosemary & sea salt focaccia

- Olive oil, charred asparagus, Baron Bigod & sesame galette

- Caramel & chocolate vanilla custard cruffin

Fresh stock of HMB burgers are available this week, along with sustainable charcoal and hopefully first of the season fresh strawberries (not ours just yet!). Please ask for details.

The sun is shining and the sourdough is glistening. This photo of our classic North Sea sourdough was taken outside the Bakehouse this morning. Summer is on its way guys!

A huge thanks to everyone who came to our annual Bakehouse session last Saturday, Johnny’s feet have just about landed after such a buzzing night . It was so much fun and the wonderful feedback has been much appreciated. We’re really proud of our team, the music was top notch and without you all there, there would not have been such a great atmosphere, so much joy and many fabulous dance moves. So thanks for coming! Until next year…..
