We believe that societies are an integral part of the Lboro experience and Cook’n’Bake is a place to learn, create, and most importantly socialise. Whether you love to cook and bake, have never cooked or baked, or

simply want to get out and meet some new people, C’n’B is a welcoming and accepting place for everyone. Over this past year we’ve held events from teaching our members the basics of Hummus to collaborating with other societies like the Japanese society with our Mochi workshop, and even taking C’n’B into town to learn from the very best of our local community (yes, that’s right, the loved Pizza making workshop at Jam Garden). It is important to us as a society to host a range of events, always with individuals’ dietary requirements in mind. But it’s all well and good trying just to explain what we do here at C’n’B, what’s better is actually showing you. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be giving you some taster events to get involved in. This is a great way for you to get a sense of what, and who we are as a society. So make sure you follow us on our socials on Instagram and Facebook, and LSU Cook’n’Bake Society on LinkedIn, to keep up to date with our latest news and events. Are you ready for our most exciting winter ❄️ event? It’s Bake Off time 💃🏻💃🏻
LSU CookNBake, in collaboration with the Scandinavian society and Claudia Parsons Hall, presents Lussekatter workshop. 🥐
With a classic Scandinavian twist to Christmas, we’ll be baking Lussekatter, it’s a saffron.

Grab your mates (and your baking trays) and head down to the CP common room for some friendly competition 💪🏻😉

We will also be having a chocolate fountain for our spirited audience and anyone who wants to join in on the fun 🍫

Loughborough Students’ Union’s Cooking and Baking Society

At the Freshers’ Bazaar in 2017, budding bakers and keen chefs didn’t have somewhere to call home. Although there was an amazing range of clubs and societies for people to get involved with, us foodies felt a little out of place.

The great thing about food, though, is that it has opportunities to bring people together multiple times per day. Finding likeminded individuals who enjoyed learning about, creating and eating different foods happened very naturally and we began to carve out our own social space for socialising, with different food themes adding a party vibe.

As our meetups grew in popularity, we realised we could expand our scope. On top of the regular food parties, daytime meetings designed to work out the logistics of forming an official society began to take place. Brainstorming sessions for names (“Get Baked” was one suggestion, but we decided to keep our name closer to developing cooking and baking skills!), activities and membership details as a group helped us submit our application and get on the road to being backed by the Students’ Union.

Many risk assessments and a steep learning curve later, the society was formed. Events continued, including our first society trip (to the BBC Summer Good Food Show 2018). We won Best New Society at the 2018 Society Awards because of how we worked to regularly host delicious, inclusive and exciting events, overcoming logistical challenges and our newness as a society that stood in our way.
