A little personal update from me ❤️

A few weeks ago, I shared that I needed to take a short step back from new enquiries while I dealt with an unexpected health issue.

After what has felt like a very long and worrying wait, I am incredibly relieved to say that all is well.

I honestly can't put into words the relief I feel. The past few weeks have certainly put a lot into perspective, and I'm enormously grateful to everyone who has sent kind messages, checked in on me and been so understanding while I took some time to focus on my health.

If there's one thing this experience has reminded me, it's not to neglect our health, to listen to our bodies, and to make time for the people we love. Life gets incredibly busy, but some things really are more important than the never-ending to-do list.

And now I finally feel as though I can start looking forward again.

I'm really looking forward to honouring all the lovely wedding cake and celebration cake bookings I already have in the diary for the rest of this year, so many of you are getting married this autumn and celebrating special occasions! 🍂❤️
I can't wait to create your cakes and be a small part of your special events.

And I'm very happy to say that from next week, Razzmatazz Cakes will once again be welcoming new enquiries and bookings! 🎂

An amazing wedding cake for two board game loving sapphics 🧡🤍🩷

I loved creating Millie & Abbie’s wedding cake, but there was one part of their lovely review that meant an enormous amount to me:
“Thank you for being so inclusive and intelligent in your design!”

Inclusivity is incredibly important to me and to Razzmatazz Cakes. I want every couple who comes to me to feel welcomed, listened to and completely comfortable being themselves.

Millie & Abbie gave me the brilliant brief of “LGBTQ+, board games and fun”, and then trusted me to run with it.

Their finished cake included little nods to two of their favourite games, Flamecraft and Azul, with the colours of the le***an flag subtly woven into the design through the handmade sugar flowers.

But what made this one particularly lovely was working with them. Their enthusiasm for my ideas and designs throughout the process was infectious, and communicating with them was always such a pleasure. Those are the experiences that remind me why I love doing what I do.

For me, a bespoke wedding cake should tell your story, not somebody else's idea of what a wedding cake ought to be.

And apparently everyone is still talking about the cake, which makes me very happy indeed. 🥰

I’ve been busy behind the scenes giving the Razzmatazz Cakes website a complete refresh, creating an online home that feels much more reflective of me, my cakes and how the business has evolved.

You’ll find a fresh new look, updated galleries, more about my wedding cake design and consultation process, flavours, cake styling and, of course, lots of cakes!

There are some messages that really do make you stop and smile.🥹🤍

I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive some lovely reviews from my wedding couples this year, and I wanted to share just a few of their words.

Every wedding cake I create has so much thought, planning and care behind it, from those very first conversations and sketches, right through to the final finishing touches and setting the cake in place on the wedding day.

So to hear that my couples have not only loved their cakes, but have felt looked after throughout the whole experience, genuinely means more to me than I can say.

A little business update 🤍

Razzmatazz Cakes will be taking a short pause from new bookings and responding to new enquiries until the second week of October.

You’re still very welcome to send enquiries for future dates during this time, they’ll be safely waiting for me, and I’ll respond to them in due course when I return.

When your wedding cake is completely, unmistakably YOU. 🎲🌸💕

I first met the lovely Millie & Abbie at a wedding fair earlier this year, and when they told me what they wanted from their wedding cake, I knew this was going to be a particularly fun one to design.

They wanted something unique that clearly celebrated two women getting married, while also incorporating something they both love — board games!

I loved the brief and ran with it.

Their elegant white two-tier cake became the backdrop for little edible nods to their favourite games, including tiles inspired by Azul, dice and colourful meeples inspired by Flamecraft. The gold acrylic topper depicting two brides made sure there was absolutely no mistaking whose love story we were celebrating. 👰‍♀️👰‍♀️

And I knew I was on the right track when, while I was delivering the cake to The Dickens Inn, an engaged couple viewing the venue immediately spotted the Azul pieces. “They’re from Azul!” ,music to my ears! 😂🎲

I made each of the sugar cosmos by hand, choosing a harmonious palette of coral, apricot, blush, soft mauve and deeper pinks, which are all colours sympathetic to the le***an pride flag, but softened to work well with Millie & Abbie’s wedding palette.

This is exactly what I love about bespoke wedding cakes. They don’t have to follow a formula or simply look “wedding-y”. They can tell people something about who you are, what you love and the life you share together.

Created with so much joy for Millie & Abbie, who celebrated their marriage at The Dickens Inn. 💕

Thank you both for trusting me with such a wonderfully personal brief, it was a pleasure bringing this one to life.

I don’t typically write posts about joining directories or being listed somewhere. But this one feels different, and for obvious reasons, I felt compelled to.

I’m really proud to say that Razzmatazz Cakes is now a member of the Rebel Love Wedding Directory. 🏳️‍🌈

As a cisgender, heterosexual woman and an LGBTQ+ ally, I know that inclusivity isn’t about simply saying “everyone is welcome here”. It’s about making sure people can actually see that they are welcome, represented and respected, before they ever have to ask.

Wedding suppliers are invited into such a personal and important part of a couple’s life. Nobody should have to wonder whether they’ll be comfortable talking about their partner, whether their relationship will be understood, or whether they’ll be treated differently because of who they love or how they identify.

That’s why being part of Rebel Love means something to me.

For me, allyship isn’t a badge, a rainbow added to a logo once a year, or something to mention only during Pride. It’s something I want reflected in the way I run my business, the language I use, the couples I represent and, most importantly, the way people feel when they come through my door.

I make wedding cakes for couples. All couples.

I am no more… my mini-me, that is! 😂

I made this cake back in January and since then she has accompanied me to wedding fairs across London as one of my showpieces.

She certainly got people talking and even inspired several enquiries for bespoke bobblehead wedding cakes featuring the happy couple, some of which I’m very much looking forward to bringing to life.

But after an exceptionally hot summer, an ever-diminishing amount of space in my storeroom, and one final outing last weekend, it was finally time to say goodbye. 💔

I have to admit, cutting into her head felt VERY wrong. 😂 And after eight months on the road, I was rather intrigued to see what was going on inside.

Surprisingly, not nearly as mouldy as I expected…

Would I recommend eating it? Absolutely not! 🤣

So farewell, mini-me. You served me well.

And as for the space she’s left behind…

I’ve already got plans for my next wedding-fair showpiece, and it’s going to be a good’un. 👀🎂

There's always a little bit of nervousness when you hand one of your cake sample boxes over to another wedding professional… 👀🍰

So when China from The Wedding Society, who I've had the pleasure of collaborating with, and her husband (and very willing assistant!) Ben sat down to put one of my Razzmatazz Cakes sample boxes to the test, of course I wanted to know what they thought.

And I loved watching this. 😂

From Ben patiently waiting all morning for his cake delivery, to opening the box, getting the kettle on and the VERY important business of deciding who gets which slice… this is pretty much exactly how I hope my couples enjoy their sample boxes too.

For me, the tasting is all part of the wedding cake experience, trying different flavours, comparing favourites and sometimes discovering that the flavour you weren't expecting to choose turns out to be the one.

Thank you China and Ben for being such brilliant (and very willing!) taste testers. ❤️🍰

And now for the important question… which flavour came out on top? 👀

✨ A little bit of a full-circle moment… ✨

Yesterday I had the pleasure of exhibiting at the Tower Hamlets Wedding Fair, held inside the beautifully restored former Royal London Hospital building, now home to Tower Hamlets Town Hall.

This building has such an incredible history, but for me it also holds a very personal one. 25 years ago I gave birth to my daughter here! So walking back through those doors all these years later, this time with wedding cakes in tow, felt rather special. 🤍

I also managed to have a little wander around the building with the lovely Sam, who pointed out some of the original features that have been preserved during the restoration. including one ceremonial room, which, incredibly, was once a gynaecological operating theatre! Definitely not something I expected to discover at a wedding fair. 😂

It was such a lovely day meeting so many people, chatting all things weddings and, of course, connecting with couples beginning to think about their wedding cakes. It was particularly lovely to be doing a wedding fair so locally for a change and meeting so many lovely people right here in East London.

Now, the eagle-eyed among you may notice that Mini Me survived to live another day and made yet another appearance on my stand. 😂 But I really do think this has to be her final outing… she has served me well!

And the most popular cake on my display?

🍒 The cherry cake, of course! 🍒

After the reaction it received on Instagram, I probably shouldn't have been surprised, but it got a resounding thumbs up in person too. Clearly this little rectangle is having quite the moment. ❤️

A lovely day, a fascinating venue and a rather unexpected trip down memory lane.
