Merry Christmas from Hoe St Market. Let’s hope Santa left you a gift from one of our fabulous traders. I know he visits the market (in disguise of course).

Look at you, Walthamstow! Look at how you filled our hall, supporting our traders and ensuring our final market was a success. A huge success.

We wanted to go off with a bang and we certainly did that with the power cut at 3pm that plunged us into darkness for the last hour. But there were so many fairy lights and uplighters it all just looked rather atmospheric. Moody!

We were going to pack up earlier for elf and safety but people kept on coming and no-one seemed to mimd. I’ve always wanted to run a night market.

Thankyou to Natural_Voices_Choir_ who filled our balcony with their beautiful voices, for thedeafchefldn who kept us fed with their amazing Yorkshire pudding wraps and Liz from Ziggy Played Guitar whose mulled wine kept us feeling warm and fuzzy.

There were so many sell outs (I’ve never seen so many people clamouring for a crocheted pig in blanket) so thankyou for shopping small and shopping local. It means a lot to all our traders.

I want to say a big thankyou to everyone at Greenleaf Road Baptist Church who helps put this on. It is a joint effort. Thankyou Dan, Jen, Gomer, Lourdes, Lorenzo, Elaine, Brenda and John. Apologies if I’ve missed anyone.

I’ll be posting more in the next few days, but for now, thankyou and goodbye.

The final trader at our final market at Greenleaf Road Baptist Church is rather touching. Alexis Alexandrou has salvaged wood from the pews of the church, and turned it into beautiful stools.

He has also taken wood from a sycamore tree in St. Mary's Church, Walthamstow churchyard to make these striking chopping boards. And oak from the church for his glorious lamps.

The tealight holders are made with oak salvaged from a Walthamstow window sill and all his other items, including tables, are made from salvaged wood.

William Morris would approve of Alexis’ creativity and the fact he has made something useful and beautiful, not to mention sustainable and eco friendly.

Come to Greenleaf Road Baptist Church this Sat, 11-4 and take a piece of Greenleaf Rd Baptist Church away with you. But be quick as last year, Alexis sold EVERYTHING he brought with him.

Here’s a cracker - plant pots and vases made in cement and inspired by the humble egg. And what beauties they are - from the talented hands of Katarina at Egg Corp.

Katarina turned to eggs because to her they are symbols of new life and new beginnings. The cracked shells, which she incorporates into her work, are always different and her pots are all unique - each one tinted and sealed with pigments to make them waterproof. Her vases are coated with resin inside to ensure they’re watertight.

I love them! The plants look like they’re being hatched. It’s such a brilliant way of bringing two life forms together.

Come and see Katarina, and her eggs, at the market THIS Saturday, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4!

I abhor nepotism in all forms.

My partner, Tim Reedy Art, who has had a stall at every market, is back with his cartoons on cards, prints, stickers, badges and coasters and brand new Christmas cards!

Tim’s pun-filled work makes everyone laugh. His new badges were a massive hit at the last market - especially ‘adopt don’t shop’ and he’s always making new work.

Kids love him! Cats love him (he’s also E17 Catsitter) and you’ll love him too. Come and see Tim - he’ll be in his Christmas jumper - at the market THIS Sat, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4.

Lauren’s bracelets went down a storm last year and now she’s expanded her range so ‘Bracelets by Lauren’ also includes necklaces, earrings and anklets.

Handmade from gold, silver and gemstone balls, these beauties also come with pendants or letters, and make lovely gifts. Plus, if you get your skates on and order at the market she can personalise you a piece of jewellery before Christmas. She’s based in Walthamstow so it comes with stress-free delivery.

Come and see Lauren and her balls of joy at the market THIS Saturday, 11-4 Greenleaf Road Baptist Church.

She’s bonkers and she’s back! After spending 11 months with fabric offcuts, sequins, odd doll parts and a vivid imagination, Luflie Fluff returns with her cards, hangies and dolls.

Expect the unexpected. She has Bowieesque tree decorations (too good to only take out once a year; hang them from your plants, doors and walls), vintage-inspired Christmas cards and lovable dolls all looking for a new home.

From broozers with faces only a mother could love to dangly dolls and turtles, Luflie Fluff’s Stacey has all your needs covered. It goes without saying everything is unique.

Find Stacey among the weird and the wonderful at her stall THIS Sat, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4!

Back at the market - and you’ll smell her before you see her - is Vaneza from Roots by VanL with her heavenly organic natural soaps. Now with added handmade jesmonite soap dishes.

These vegan soaps with their fabulous scents - Christmas spice; lavender and oatmeal; black rose; coconut and basil and more - are long lasting and kind to the skin.

Match them with one of her new soap dishes and you’ve got a lovely present for Christmas, or for yourself as these soaps are too good to give them all away.

I’m a big fan of and you will be too. Don’t be a stinker. Come and see Vaneza THIS Saturday, 11-4, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church.

‘Is the woman with the cat bags coming?’ is a question I’m asked a lot. Well guess what? The woman with the cat bags is coming this Saturday and yes, Mika Bon Bon has cat bags, as well as all types of bags and purses including these fun monster wallets. Perfect stocking fillers.

Mika is all about recycling and making less waste so she uses up all scraps of fabric for her work. I love her duffel bag (swipe to see) and she has lovely 80s’ inspired handbags and crossbody bags. She has loads of fun purses and pouches for kids. She makes baseball caps and bucket hats too.

It’s always good to have Mika back so come and see her this Saturday, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4pm.

If you’re sick of the negative stories about refugees being peddled by the media, here’s your chance to read something heartwarming and positive.

Stories & Supper have been bringing refugees and locals together over
food and stories for the past five years, to tell a different story
about migration. And I’m delight to say they are back at the market this Saturday with their
two books, which are both perfect ethical Christmas presents.

More Than a Recipe Book is a
collection of recipes from Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Biafra, Turkey, India and beyond that speak of home, of family and friends near and
far. It’s also a book of migration
stories – of difficult journeys and new beginnings.

In the Morning Birds Were Singing is a beautiful collection of poetry and stories, fiction and non-fiction, photos and illustrations by refugees living in our neighbourhood. A timely anthology – it's a celebration of creativity and resilience, challenging preconceptions about migration and the people who migrate. Ultimately, it is a book about hope.

Come and meet some of the people behind and buy their books at the market on Sat, Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4.

Yes we have wreaths! Thanks to Fallyn from Good Stems Floral E17who is knee deep in festive foliage making fresh wreaths, dried wreaths and preparing dried flowers to make your homes lovely and Christmassy this year.

This is the second year Fallyn has been with us (swipe to see her amid all her green loveliness at last year’s market). Her wreaths were big hits and it’s so lovely to buy these handmade as each one is unique.

She’s a relatively new local business and she also takes commissions so come and chat to her at the Christmas market next Sat, Dec 10 Greenleaf Road Baptist Church, 11-4!
