Every now and then, a message reminds you why you do what you do.

Now that my weddings are over for the year (FYI - availability in November & December 2026) I’ve been reviewing feedback from my couples and this one from Chrissie and Ryan has really stayed me

“If you want a cake, you can go anywhere and get that. Now if you want an experience, reassurance, attention to detail, professionalism, warmth, respect and real care - that’s what you will find and receive here!”

When I read those words, my heart just filled with joy

And you know why?

Because that was exactly how I wanted them to experience working with me.

There’s always a little nervousness in the background, pitting so much thought and care into someone’s wedding cake experiment and wondering if you’ve hit the mark.

You don’t always know quite how much they’ve meant until you hear it from the couple themselves.

Chrissie and Ryan described their experience as joyful, intentional and thoughtful and when asked how they felt when seeing their Bridgerton inspired cake Thor answer was simply

“Overjoyed”

For me, it’s never just about the cake. It’s about how you feel throughout the journey, knowing that the details matter and that you’re in good hands.

Sometimes a shoot just falls into place.

When we first started discussing this shoot, the vision for the cake was an all-white beauty, maybe with a touch of colour. But somehow, it just didn’t quite feel right.

I kept coming back to this deep burgundy/oxblood. I couldn’t let it go, so eventually I decided to trust my instinct and go with it.

The result is a cake that felt so much more me

Clean lines, deep, rich colour, subtle stencilling that added texture without taking away from the simplicity of the design.

And when I arrived everything else just seemed to fall into place.

It was such a pleasure to work with such a wonderful team of creatives, and this was probably the most relaxed, chilled shoot I’ve ever been a part of.

Set against the beautiful stonework of Asylum Chapel, Asylum & Maverick Projects the cake had the most incredible backdrop, while the gorgeous styling from FOLD AND FLOW | Fabric Draping & Design Studio brought everything together to beautifully.

Sometimes you stay with a plan

Sometimes you trust your instinct

And sometimes, when the two finally meet, everything just works

I think this was one of those times

Yesterday we had an early celebration of my Mums birthday which is coming up this week. (Check out my stories)

And it made me realise that there’s a part of my business I haven’t really talked about.

And it’s probably the part that explains the most why I do what I do.

So I grew up with Caribbean roots, surrounded by family, (sometimes it felt like too much family!) food and music. Gospel, soca, RnB have always been a big part of my life, and so is that feeling of people coming together.

In my world, food has never just been food.

It’s what appears when people gather. You could never visit someone home without them offering you something and take way too!

It’s how we celebrate and how we welcome people, look after them, comfort them and show love without saying a word.

And as I think about this, the more I realise that’s probably why I’ve never seen a cake as just cake

Of course I care about beautiful designs, the details, colours, textures and creating something that makes people say “wow!” When they walk into the room.

But I’m also interested in the people gathering around it. The families, the stories, the traditions.

The two lives and sometimes very different cultures coming together around one table.

This is the place I create from but I just haven’t talked about it at all really. So, you’re going to hear a little more from me.

More about the culture, more about family. More about the flavour and celebration and all the things that make a wedding feel unmistakably yours.

And definitely there will still be plenty of beautiful cakes because this is where it all meets.

So I’m a day late! (Sorry guys this heat is literally frying my brain 😅) but I had to take a moment to celebrate the cutest couple ever on their 1st anniversary. How is it year already since this beautiful wedding at ? One of the best weddings I’ve ever attended, being made to feel just like family.

Saba & Suffian I’m sure this past year has been full of highs and lows but I hope you have had a wonderful first year of marriage. I pray this continues for many many years to come! Happy Anniversary!!
