Today, it saddens me to write this post, to tell you that I will be closing The Big Banana Bread Co. 🙈🙉🙊
I always believed in our Aussie recipe and wanted to share this with the world. I really gave it my all, and I’m really proud of the wins I achieved- starting a business from the ground up, scaling a homemade recipe to being stocked in Fortnum & Masons, Jamie Oliver’s Recipease, Crussh & Pod Health Food, London wide and beyond.
Having pivoted to my bake-at-home mix during Covid, it was a chance for us to go BIG - to scale with no limits (shelf life being a huge barrier for the supermarkets for our original, freshly baked preservative free product).
The tipping point for any business is scale and distribution. And with plenty of interest, but sadly no tangible orders coming from the supermarkets, this was not possible. Amazing feedback (and some good sales) through our digital channels, unfortunately, was not enough to sustain the business. 😔
So my journey with banana bread (as a consumer product) ends here, and I’m thankful for all the support and generosity of our banana fans, family and friends over the years. For our distributors, partners and supporters who have all helped keep this business running for over 10 years, and helped (in a small way at least) to bring Aussie style (big, bold, toasted and delicious) banana bread into the mainstream for British consumer culture. But like the great philosopher Marty McFly once said: “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet… but your kids are gonna love it!”
But fear not - I now have a great story to tell. ☝🏽I’m currently working for - a business that supports everyday entrepreneurs, just like myself. I believe it’s where I’m meant to be, and without my banana bread journey - I would have never landed here. 👣

I could have never come this far without the 💛 and support of my husband , for my website, www.rarefied.net for brand strategy and for our identity. I still get a buzz from customers who write to tell me that our banana bread reminds them of Australia or it’s the best banana bread they have ever tasted, and for this - I thank you.
