🍫 Even when I’m not baking… I’m baking! 🎂😂

Our eldest is home for the weekend for his birthday, and apparently shop-bought cake was never going to be an option! 🤷‍♀️

So the mixer came out, the chocolate buttercream was whipped up, and a simple three-layer chocolate cake somehow ended up covered in Oreos and sprinkles. 🍪🍫

People often ask if I get fed up of baking… but there’s something quite special about making a cake for your own family. (Even if they still hover in the kitchen asking, “Is it ready yet?” every five minutes! 😆)

Now all that’s left is to light the candles and try to grab a slice before it disappears. ❤️

It’s been one of those weeks here at Karen’s Kakes where social media has taken a bit of a back seat while I’ve been busy behind the scenes.

Between orders, baking, family life, markets and everything else that comes with running a small business, I’m feeling a little low on energy at the moment, so if I’ve been a bit quieter than usual, that’s why!

The oven is still on, the mixer is still working hard, and there are plenty of cakes and treats heading out the door – even if I haven’t been sharing quite as much of what I’ve been up to.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support my little business, whether that’s placing an order, stopping by my stall, liking a post, sharing a recommendation or simply cheering me on from the sidelines. It genuinely means more than you know ❤️

🦁🦒🐵 A little something different heading out this week! 🐵🦒🦁

This adorable zoo-themed birthday cake was made for a very special little one celebrating their 2nd birthday! 💚

A delicious gluten-free chocolate cake, finished with smooth vanilla buttercream and decorated with a whole zoo of animal friends, jungle leaves and pastel balloon details. ✨

Please excuse the rushed photos – sometimes it’s a race against the clock to get a cake safely boxed up and ready for collection! 😅

Dipping my toes into the savoury world… and I think I might be hooked 👀🥐

This weekend’s experiment: puff pastry tarts topped with roasted red onions, creamy goat’s cheese & balsamic glaze 🤍 plus roasted Mediterranean veg with sun-dried tomatoes 🍅🌿

Buttery, flaky pastry loaded with rich savoury flavours — perfect alongside a coffee or as a lunch treat at the market. I’ll be testing a few savoury options alongside the cakes and brownies over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out!
