When a 2 year old wins our ‘design a cake’ competition… and, of course we actually make it!

First things first: notify the parents. Then it’s all buttercream on cake!

Bella’s Parents = Happy.
Bella (the cake artist) = emotions currently unknown.
Our team = very excited to make the masterpiece!

We love a little fun, and we love finding cute teeny ways to give something back to you guys. And whether Bella’s cake design will make it onto our website or not, well, that is still in question - but we hope the little artist enjoys devouring her creation (and that she doesn’t have to share too much!)

Some things mean more than you realise…

Yesterday, I asked you about your first Wilma’s, how you found us, how long have you been coming for and the little moments you remember.

This morning a wonderful message landed in our DM’s.

A lovely mum told us that her and her daughter have been coming to Wilma’s for 9 years, since her daughter was little. Now she’s older, she has a little more independence and can walk to the shops on her own.

Her mum asked her:
“If you ever felt scared, what would you do?”

Her answer:

“I’d go to Wilma’s and ask to wait there until you picked me up.”

The enormity of that. It took a moment to sink in. Because when you open a coffee and cake shop you always think about the cakes, the coffee, the customers, the staff, the business day to day dilemmas, the busy days, how you can have more busy days….

You don’t necessarily think that one day you might become someone’s safe place. To know that Wilma’s has become that for someone means more than I can put into words.

So here’s my little sloshy chat from my walk on the way to work this morning.
