As we enter the spooky season, what better cake to welcome its arrival than this gorgeous hand piped dark, romantic, gothic, black buttercream cake.

Adapted from a similar design, it was so much fun to make. My son had a friend over who passed the cake room door as I started and left as I piped the final details... His reaction was "WOW, that cake is amazing!" And blowing my own trumpet... I couldn't agree more! It is insane and I couldn't stop looking at it on Friday night.

This and those hand piped floral cupcakes, all in one night meant my hand was like a claw on Saturday and still had pins and needles on Sunday morning.

I love a theme and who doesn't hold the Very Hungry Caterpillar in their heart. So when a returning customer requested a cake, I was excited, then they added calesicles and lastly hand painted cookies.

I absolutely adored making this order last week.

"Hi Leni! Hope you're well 🥰 today's our first wedding anniversary and we froze the top tier of our cake last year to have today. We've defrosted it and it looks and smells amazing still! Can't wait to have some later 😋 xx"

So when this lovely couple contacted me for a single tier wedding cake, we soon realised together that actually they wanted more cake than that and we ended up with a cupcake tower, but not just your standard cupcakes.

The bride requested hand piped buttercream flowers instead of your standard swirls. I hadn't ever piped buttercream flowers but agreed anyway.... Promising myself I had 6 months to practice but time passed so quickly, I had to get through a busy wedding season and so there I found myself on Friday evening, with 50 odd cupcakes in front of me and I had to pipe flowers for the first time. I love how they have turned out.

Delivered to the historical Sailmakers Arms on High Street Hull . We are heading back up today to collect the stand and look around the museum quarter with the kids.

It's a busy day/week here at Cakes by Leni and I'm so sorry that I haven't got round to admin.

This week I've have 4 weddings and 3 celebration cakes. Plus spent a day dismantling and building a new shed, looking round potential secondary schools with the youngest and the standard mum life of ferrying the kids to various places, keeping them alive, fed and watered.

I have literally no bookings next week (which also means no income next week) but it does mean I can catch up on admin, Christmas mock ups and sort/submit my tax return.

Thanks for your continued patience x

Country is everywhere at the moment and I am here for it. So when I was asked to make this country inspired 40 number cake, I was so excited. Completed with macarons, chocolate mould country themed motifs and dried florals... Just perfection.
