d in to a passion. Over the next few years I spent a small fortune on cake decorating tools, baked cupcakes for my housemate, and spent hours searching Youtube videos to learn new techniques. Four years later I completed a PME Professional Diploma in Cake Decorating, training under the expert tutelage of Leigh Muschette. I started making celebration cakes for friends and family, and then started juggling the odd cake order with the chaos of raising two children. Now, twelve years on - with my nursing career well and truly behind me, and the kids nearly in full-time education – I can finally return to the workshop. Only this time, I'm on the other side of the table, sharing everything I've learned along the way. Yesterday I ran Cupcakes for Beginners at the new venue in Kings Langley, and what a lovely afternoon we had.

Despite the 27+ degree heat 🥵, the buttercream behaved and these 6 fabulous ladies, all with varying experience in baking, learnt all things buttercream, piping, modelling paste, plunge cutters, sugar roses 🌹 and more with lots of tea and chat - and they did brilliantly. Just look at these gorgeous cakes! 😍

🎹 The last time I made this cake was for an 18th birthday celebration last year, and I was so pleased to be asked to recreate it again, this time for a 90th birthday! Same cake, but for two very different milestones!

🖋Writing on cakes doesn't come naturally to me and the idea of piping black icing on to a white cake quite frankly terrified me.

If you're ever in the same position, here's a hack - pipe on to greaseproof baking paper sellotaped to a baking tray or chopping board and pop it in the freezer for a few hours. You can then lift it off with an offset palette knife and place it on to the cake. No accidents, no errors, no mess. 😁👍

I do really love a bunny themed cake. This was for a little lady celebrating her first birthday and it was so much fun to make. All handmade from modelling paste with butter icing grass 😆. Happy 1st Nia! 🥳

Shout out to the wonderful Denise at for my supplies. If you're in to your cake decorating, pay her a visit - her shop is like an Aladdin's cave! 😍
