It’s Sourdough September: join the sensationally simple sourdough swap!

This year, the Real Bread Campaign is keeping things super simple. Our call to all is to dough just one thing: swap whatever bread you normally make or buy for genuine sourdough.

Just once. That’s all.

Your swap might be from a favourite bread to a sourdough version of it; or kicking sourfaux in favour of the real deal. It’s also a chance for people to taste things they haven’t tried before.

Sourdough opens the door to a world of choice. Rather than a style of bread, sourdough is a process. It can be used to make pretty much any type of bread on the planet, savoury or sweet, ranging from crusty to soft.

You can find everything you need to know about sourdough, sourfaux, making and buying, what's happening, and the Campaign, at www.realbreadcampaign.org

Thanks Martha wiles art for the image.

Looking for fresh, seasonal, innovative plates in the centre of Paris? Le Richer is the place to head to, away from the tourist laden streets.

I had a fab late lunch there today. Fish ceviche, anchovy salsa verde, friggitelli to start washed down with a glass of fizz. For main I had seared tuna, spelt (had to because I’m a baker and love my spelt!!), zucchini cream and washed that down with a fab orange wine! Great wine list! All reasonably priced.

Defo with a visit if you’re in Paris and want great food. Only 15 mins walk from Galaries Lafayette and importantly 15 mins away from the tourist traps.

Righty ho lovers of fabulous pastries …. Here are some recommendations for banging spots to head to next time you’re planning a little sojourn to this beautiful city of Paris. Easy walking distance from each other too.

Gilles MARCHAL for the most amazing madeleines and cannele.

The Beans on Fire was the perfect spot for a great coffee, carrot cake and a chilled place to while away half an hour.

Le Grenier à Pain Abbesses for award winning baguettes tradition and the best Kouign Amman I’ve ever had!

THE FRENCH BASTARDS OMG the flan vanille was to die for and I’m taking home with me the most amazing dark malty sourdough that I hope to aspire to one day!

For me this was my baker’s dream day out in Paris!

Morning all, just a quick update on the rest of the year from me - a reminder that I’m not baking this weekend so you’ll next see me at the Huntly Hairst on Saturday 5th September.  It’s in the square from 9 until 3 and it will be an extremely busy day.  Sorry no orders for this event, only weekly standing orders will be honoured from the usual collection points/times.

I am now all out of Orkney cheeses and Edinburgh Butter but will be placing more orders soon.

September is an odd month this year as the only other market I have is Dufftown on Saturday 12th when I’ll be taking orders for collection from Insch or the market as normal.

I’ve attached my bake schedule for the remainder of the year.  Christmas menu will be live at the end of October and will close end November unless sold out earlier (which always happens by the way so don’t leave it too late!).  Collection day is Wednesday 23rd December this year - collection from Insch from 10am all day or from Huntly (exact times to be determined and from where).
