Have you discovered The Norfolk Deli online yet?

No? Well, we think you might be in for a bit of a surprise.

Some websites sell cheese.
Some sell hampers.
Some sell Norfolk produce.

We couldn’t decide which we liked best.

So we built a website that does all three.

And quite a bit more besides.

An English cheese with a Swiss name and a French cheese that’s clearly decided orange is its colour. 🧀

On the tasting slate today:

🇬🇧 Mayfield Swiss — made in Sussex, smooth and nutty with a lovely sweetness and hints of caramel.

🇫🇷 Mimolette — firm, gloriously orange and full of rich, nutty flavour with a little butterscotch sweetness.

Pop into the deli, try both and tell us your favourite. It’s important research. Someone has to do it. 😉

Norfolk by name. Norfolk by nature.

There’s a rather magnificent historic house just down the road from us in Old Hunstanton. So we thought it was about time it had a hamper named after it.

And not just any hamper.

Which seems a little odd to us.

After all, if Norfolk produces such extraordinary food and drink, why would we need to look elsewhere to fill a Norfolk hamper?

A little family news from The Norfolk Deli ❤️

Some of you may have noticed that Rosie has been missing from the deli this week. Well, there’s a rather wonderful reason why.

Our daughter has given birth to a beautiful baby girl in Stockholm, and Rosie has been over in Sweden welcoming the newest addition to our family.

Her name is Astrid ❤️

She is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful addition to what I firmly believe (although I may be ever so slightly biased) is already the most beautiful collection of grandchildren anyone could wish for.

So, while I’ve been holding the fort here in Hunstanton, Rosie has been enjoying some rather special grandmother duties in Stockholm.

Welcome to the world, little Astrid. You’ve already made us very proud grandparents. ❤️

Five fabulous cheeses. Five very different styles. One rather magnificent selection.

Ogleshield, Chaumes, Roquefort, Vacherousse and Mayfield Swiss.

All chosen by one customer, ordered online, freshly cut by hand from our cheese counter, carefully wrapped and sent on their way.

Not necessarily a selection you’d easily find together in one place. But that’s rather the point of a proper cheesemonger.

Who says salad season ends when summer does? 🍂

Autumn brings its own appetite. Something a little heartier, full of colour, texture and the sort of flavours that make you look forward to lunch.

This is autumn, deli style. Deep greens, glorious orange, plump beans and beautifully caramelised edges. A salad with substance, looking perfectly at home alongside the changing leaves.

Enjoy it as lunch in its own right, add a generous slice of quiche or take some home to brighten up supper.

On the deli counter today. Because shorter days shouldn’t mean less colourful plates. 🧡

As the seasons change, some routines remain exactly the same. Still up at 4.30am. The dogs insist. Apparently, autumn isn’t a valid reason for a lie-in. 🐾

Gone are the early sunrises and that first warmth of the morning sun. In their place… we get this.

Big Norfolk skies, very little street lighting and a sky full of stars. One of the finest shows nature can put on, quietly taking place while most people are still tucked up in bed.

There’s plenty I miss about those summer mornings. But standing beneath this, with the dogs for company, getting up at 4.30 doesn’t seem quite so unreasonable.

Don’t tell them I said that. ✨
