👑🍎 Not everyone gets invited to a Royal Garden Party…

…but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the same apple juice.

Sandringham Apple Juice is famously served at Royal Garden Parties, yet it’s also finding its way into holiday cottages, welcome hampers and breakfast tables across Norfolk.

This recent review came from a holiday let owner looking to give their guests a genuine taste of the county:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Great juice. Really pleased to find a local small business to provide local produce for a welcome hamper at our holiday let. Am sure the guests will enjoy the juice. Norfolk Deli have been great with prompt delivery and excellent communication.”

We love this because it highlights something we see time and again. Visitors don’t come to Norfolk hoping for the same things they can find anywhere else. They come here to experience Norfolk.

And if you’re staying in a Norfolk holiday cottage this summer, you might just be fortunate enough to discover a bottle of Sandringham Apple Juice waiting for you in your welcome hamper.

After all, if it’s good enough for a Royal Garden Party… 🍎👑

Most days, the post brings invoices, statements, supplier paperwork and the usual pile of things that come with running a small business.

Today it brought something rather different.

A Gold Winner Certificate in the Independent Retailer category at this year’s Sammies Awards.

Truthfully, it was completely unexpected.

The Norfolk Deli has never been built around chasing awards. For the last 12½ years we’ve simply focused on doing what we do best: championing great food, supporting local producers, helping customers discover something new and proving that specialist independent retail still has a place on Britain’s high streets.

When you’re a business run by just two people, it’s easy to become absorbed in the day-to-day. Cutting cheese. Building hampers. Serving customers. Packing parcels. Updating websites. Washing up. Then doing it all again tomorrow.

So every now and then, something arrives that reminds you to pause for a moment and reflect on how far you’ve come.

To everyone who has shopped with us, ordered online, recommended us to a friend, supported a local producer through us, or simply followed our journey over the years — thank you.

This certificate may have arrived through the letterbox today, but it really belongs to everyone who has helped make The Norfolk Deli what it is.

Where speciality isn’t a trend, it’s standard.

A holiday in Italy. A search for Pecorino. A parcel from Norfolk.

This review made us smile.

One of the things we love most about being cheesemongers is that people often don’t discover us because they’re looking for The Norfolk Deli.

They discover us because they’re looking for a particular cheese.

In this case, Pecorino.

After returning from Italy, this customer wanted to recreate a flavour they’d fallen in love with but couldn’t easily find locally. A quick online search led them to us and, thankfully, the cheese lived up to the memories.

That’s one of the joys of speciality cheese. Whether it’s a Pecorino from Italy, a Comté from France, or a Baron Bigod from Suffolk, great cheese has a way of transporting you back to a place, a meal or a moment.

Thank you for the wonderful review and for trusting us with your cheese journey.

West Coast attitude… brewed in Norfolk. 🌴🍺

California Jack by Moongazer is the kind of IPA that practically demands sunshine, good company and something sizzling on the barbecue.

Bold citrus, grapefruit and classic West Coast bitterness wrapped up in one seriously good summer beer.

Not bad for something brewed a few thousand miles from California.

Available now at The Norfolk Deli.

Today would have been my dad’s birthday.

And with Father’s Day coming up, I think it’s a reminder that the best gifts are rarely the biggest ones… they’re the thoughtful ones.

Over the next few weeks there’ll be plenty of Father’s Day hampers advertised online — many of them lovely — but how many genuinely feel personal?

That’s the difference with what we do here at The Norfolk Deli.

You can start with something they truly love — whisky, Norfolk gin, cheese, beer, coffee, chocolate — and build a gift around them properly.

Not generic.
Not filler.
Just thoughtful gifting that feels chosen for the person receiving it.

Half term for some.
Peak trading week for others.

One of the realities of self employment is that when the busy periods arrive, you work them. Because quieter weeks are never all that far away — especially in seasonal places and independent retail.

There’s no paid holiday, guaranteed income or real switch-off point. Just the constant balancing act of trying to make enough during the good weeks to carry you through the slower ones.

That’s not a complaint by the way. Most self employed people know exactly what they signed up for.

But perhaps it’s a useful reminder that behind independent businesses are usually people working far longer hours than most customers ever see.

And whilst these slides touch on some of the hidden costs of self employment, there are of course positives too. Independence, freedom, building something of your own and the ability to create a business around your own values is something many wouldn’t swap.

Even if it does occasionally mean answering emails at 10pm whilst updating websites, editing product listings and trying to remember whether you actually ate dinner.

If posts like this remind people of anything, hopefully it’s that by choosing independent businesses, towns, cities and villages retain far more of their individuality, personality and character — alongside all the other benefits that come from having thriving independents around them.

Some people walk into a delicatessen for one thing… and leave wondering why supermarkets ever became the norm.

A quick glance around The Norfolk Deli and you’ll spot towering cheeses, hand-cut charcuterie, Norfolk chutneys, small batch spirits, fresh deli salads, proper pies, artisan crackers, local coffee, craft beer, gift hampers and shelves packed with things you simply don’t find everywhere else.

This is the kind of food shopping where people still say
“ooh what’s that?”
every few minutes.

The kind of place where dinner ideas turn into cheeseboards, where “just popping in” becomes half an hour, and where food lovers can happily lose themselves looking at shelves.

If you love:
Proper cheese counters
Food with provenance
Independent delicatessens
Small batch drinks
Thoughtful food gifts
Discovering something new
Supporting independent retailers

…then welcome to your kind of place.

And yes… this is only the quick version.

Some salads are an obligation.
This one is an obsession.

Fresh raw broccoli, sweet dates, crunchy pistachios, roasted pumpkin seeds, a little kick of chilli, all brought together with the most ridiculously fresh lime & chilli dressing.

It’s crunchy, vibrant, refreshing and perfectly balanced — the kind of salad that actually makes you want to eat salad.

Perfect for hot days, picnic tables, lunch on the go or those moments where you’re trying to keep an eye on the waistline… minus the mayo overload

Fresh, colourful food that tastes every bit as good as it looks. Exactly how summer eating should be.

A little bit of sunshine has just landed on the shelves at The Norfolk Deli

New in from The Isle of Wight Tomato Stall are three jars absolutely bursting with flavour, colour and proper tomato goodness.

🍅 A rich, delicious Tomato Pesto
🌶️ A sweet-meets-fiery Tomato & Chilli Jam
🍕 And quite possibly one of the most wonderful Pizza Base Sauces we’ve tasted

Honestly, the vibrancy of these jars looks like summer itself has been bottled up and put on a shelf. Bright, bold, colourful and packed full of that naturally sweet Isle of Wight tomato flavour.

Perfect for pizzas, cheeseboards, sandwiches, pasta dishes, grazing boards or simply finding excuses to eat straight from the jar with a spoon… we won’t judge.

This is the kind of food that reminds you just how exciting simple ingredients can be when they’re done properly.
