Dear cake lover,
Baking delicious cakes and bakes doesn't just come from your home, it comes from your heart.
In a world where culinary culture is so diverse, the true nature of good old-fashioned English baking is somewhat overlooked, and slowly being forgotten.
Growing up with a grandmother who could pretty much bake and cook anything with her eyes closed, I came to adore and be inspired by this woman who had a natural talent to add a spoon full of this, and a spoon full of that (no scales!), and have everything she baked, turn out exactly the same, over and over, and always mouth-wateringly delicious, every single time.
She had hands that were cool enough to make pastry melt in your mouth, yet warm enough to add that touch of love to a simple sponge.
My Granny grew up in a 'make do' era, when things were rationed, scarce or expensive, but still managed to bake something from nothing. She had patience to teach me basic baking skills that I've carried with me throughout my life.
I want to help you step back into those good old-fashioned classics of my childhood, introduce a few of my own creations, and future ones I've yet to create, which will eventually include gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and other allergen free cakes. I'll also use recipes from my late Nan Down, and her sister, Jackie Newman.
I want people to fall in love again, with the real flavours of fresh, home-made cakes. I don't have years of professional baking expertise, but have a passion to keep things simple, tasty and true to their original flavours, flavours that aren't compromised by mass production.
Pop the kettle on, sit back with me, enjoy a slice of homemade cake and a lovely cup of tea.
All my baking love
Louise.
