This is the weather sweet spot for a business like mine.. just right to get everyone out and spending and we love you for it! π
March was our best month to date .. again thank you!
But if you watch the reel above .. you'll see exactly where all that Β£ is going.
I don't know what kind of long game this government is playing but I'm pretty sure we and they will be gone by the time we get there.
From 1st April, we had increases in wages, national insurance and business rates. We saw increases in ingredients, packaging and electricity and we even had fuel surcharges added to our 3 weekly private bin collections (oh yes, we pay separately for our bins so I couldn't possibly tell you what we're paying business rates for π€·πΎββοΈ)
So, here's a question .. what exactly do you want our high streets to look like?
It's a fair question, right? Since you're wringing us dry?
99.9% of all UK businesses are small businesses and we make up 60% of private sector employment. How are we supposed to keep everyone employed?
Speaking of pay, all the stress, sleepless nights, people management, bookkeeping, holiday cover and increase costs might be worth it, if I were rolling in it but the Β£12,570 I take out of the business (with no dividends btw) just isn't cutting it for me.
So, why do it? Because I have an amazing team and we love what we do and we love sharing it with you.
I'm not writing this for pity, more for awareness because we want to stay where we are and because opening and running a business and employing people within the local community and building a welcoming space shouldn't be punished.
What can you do? If you are going to shop, continue to shop at your independents, it's necessary.
Shout about this however you can .. maybe if enough of us do it, something will changeπ€πΎ.
Support initiatives like and hassle your local councillors .. we complain a lot but not necessarily to the right people. We appointed them, they should be kept accountable.
But mostly .. a BIG thank you to you. We appreciate you more than you know β€οΈ
