I just received this email tonight. I’ve just replied explaining we DSLR scan each slide, very high resolution, fully in focus (expensive camera lens) and post scan in Lightroom and Photoshop.

I get many adverts up about scanners, gadgets and phone apps for scanning. Especially slide scanning. Of course the algorithm will highlight that I’d like those adverts. We have yet to find anything that matches the results we get, with a reasonably priced scanner, phone app or gadget.

This email made me smile but also a little bit sad, since our customer has spent time and money on a home scanner, and not happy with the result. He is now coming with more slides to us. It’s a combination of the sensor and the lens that makes a good finished scanned image.

Our ’old’ media are precious, they hold moments and memories that are part of us, part of our story, part of our journey through life. Sometimes they hold moments from our parents, their story before children.

I know this video is ’not real’, I love the photograph and my brain is confused about the footage. Both in its existence and my emotional response. But it does now exist, and in the future will it be a part of my family memories in a few generations? If so, someone will think we had a very good film camera 68 years ago. I enjoy playing around with it, I think I will need AI generated in my archiving. 😉 Have a good Sunday everyone.

One month today, Regatta Tuesday and first day of HRR26. We have digitised videos, films and scanned images and photographs of Regattas from the past. Sometimes from the rower themselves and their own memories, sometimes from a relative from someone who rowed way in the past. All
special, all precious and we look forward to be down by the riverside to see this years contestants.
