Our Company Section boys have recently embarked on an exciting adventure to Craikhope Outdoor Centre for the weekend. We arrived on Friday evening. The Centre staff were dealing with a generator fault, and for a short time we were wondering if we were going to have to abandon our stay and head back home. fortunately they were able to connect up a back-up geni.
Once everything was working and we were able to get settled in the boys enjoyed their dinner. Some of the boys went to explore the near-by ruined farmhouse. Once it started to get dark the boys played man-hunt outside. When the game was over they came back inside for some hot chocolate.
On Saturday, the group set out to conquer Wolfcleuchhead Waterfall. Navigating rough terrain, with the path washed away and fallen trees lying accross in places along the way, but we made it, we were rewarded withan impessive view of the waterfall. For some boys the view wasn't enough and they went in to the water. Later in the day most of the boys attempted to climb Ladder Hill, which is behind the centre.
In the evening we had an outdoor fire pit, some games of table tennis and a general knowlwge quiz competition. All of the quiz teams did very well. There was another game of man-hunt to finish the evening.
The final day brought a poignant visit to the site of a WW2 plane crash.
After returning to the centre, we had some well-deserved food
and participated in a Bible activity. As their time drew to a close, the
group tidied up, packed away their belongings, and bid farewell to the
beautiful outdoor centre. The journey back to Hawick was filled with happy
memories of an unforgettable weekend.
