School Trip to AllyPally for the 2026 Knit and Stitch Show

A really lovely workshop this morning with Jessica Grady EmbroideryArtist making greetings cards

Followed by a Brioche Knitting class with Monica Russel

Finally a really interesting Q&A with Holga, Lydia and Meadow from Season 1 of Game of Wool

Some purchases may or may not have been made inbetween all of the above!

Day 1 done - resting up now ready for Day 2 tomorrow!

Crochet and coffee class yesterday and just WOW - what these ladies are all making is just amazing!!!

And the beginners! Seriously! Last week they couldn't even hold a hook - this week their counting their stitches, can identify stitches - all straight edges - it's all about the basics!!!

Two hints from classes this week that I'd not thought of before - 1 - from Claire (our advanced crocheted now) when your crochet blanket gets too big to handle, roll it up and tie it with cable ties!!! And 2 - from Liz (one of our beginners) c***r makes the whole process easier 😳🫣

Every day's a school day!

🧶 Tunisian Crochet day - and WOW! 😍

I think it's safe to say these ladies absolutely smashed it! 👏

Today was an introduction to Tunisian Crochet - learning the basics understanding the techniques and getting comfortable with the gorgeous Tunisian texture.

And LOOK what they produced! And I'm even more impressed that they then decided to really play with this - trying different hook sizes, changing colours on either side to see what effects they'd get - they were not at all frightened just to try something!

Lots of lovely moments today and I truly could not be happier with how today went.

🧶 BLANKET DAY 🧶

Today is all about blankets - we have a zig-zag chevron blanket, a tester for a major mosaic crochet blanket that's being planned, 3 x Charlotte's Universe and a Janey Crow Magic Circles blanket - all uniquely beautiful!

Blankets are definitely a labour of love ..... lots of stitches that gradually become something you can snuggle under. I love seeing how everyone's colours and combinations start to come together and become completely their own (some even dress o coordinate with their blankets!)

That's what crochet is all about - learning, undoing, trying again and eventually looking at what you've made and thinking.....

Yesterday was a proper crochet kind of day! 🧶💜

We started the morning with our Gingerbread Houses - and went right back to basics!

Before we start happily crocheting away, we took time to make a swatch and check our gauge .... because nobody wants a lovely Gingerbread House that turns into a baggy Gingerbread Mansion! 😄🫣 and it never hurts to learn how to do a tension gauge properly!

It might not be the most exciting bit of crochet, but getting that tension right at the beginning makes ALL the difference.

And last night at it was time for our Hexagon Cardigan class ..

Lots of colour, lots of crochet, lots of hexagons (thankfully!) and lots of going round and round.

What fabulous colour choices I hope you'll agree!

Right wonder what blankets are coming my way today!

What a lovely morning!

A lovely group of beginners - and what I particularly love is the reaction to what I show them they will make by Christmas! Laughter!

Learning the basics is just the hardest, how to hold a hook and yarn - this can't be underestimated - it can take ages and no being able to knit doesn't help one bit!

So proud of them - well done!

And whilst they were sweating (and probably swearing) in one room the coffee and crochet girls were getting on with their projects whilst putting the world to rights! And quietly not envying the pain of the beginners!

BAVARIAN CROCHET - DONE! 🧶

What a lovely day in the Yarn Room!

Today we tackled Bavarian Crochet - and there was plenty of concentration, plenty of crochet and plenty of tea, cake and chatting! ☕️🍰😘

Thank you to everyone who joined me today - you were all brilliant!

Next up - my next lot of beginners start their crochet journey on Tuesday morning, the Gingerbread House starts on Wednesday morning, the Hexagon Crochet Cardigan on Wednesday evening (fully booked), Blanket Class on Thursday morning and Tunisian Crochet next Saturday all day.

🧶💜 Cottage and Crochet Day 💜🧶

The good news - the antibiotics are definitely kicking in and I no longer feel like there's a pack of razor blades down my throat.

Not pushing myself today though as all energies had to go towards getting our little holiday cottage ready for today's guests - everything else ie cleaning, washing, ironing can wait!

However, it's going to be a nerve wracking and VERY exciting time for us over the next few weeks as the recipient of this blanket is due to make his or her appearance very soon! So it's every spare minute on this project at the moment.

Tomorrow is our Bavarian Crochet Class and I'm so looking forward to it - they are going to absolutely love it!

Well today didn't go as planned.

What started as a mild cold a day or so ago turned into a throat full of razor blades by today!

So the Blanket Group cracked on without me (as long as there was cake they were fine!) while I went off to the Dr's who I am extremely grateful to for seeing me so quickly.

Now on a 10 day course of antibiotics so have been curled up on the sofa and working on the Magic Circles blanket instead!

Swallowing a tad easier this evening already so 🤞
