I’m going to be really honest with you all, because I’ve always said I’d rather be upfront than pretend everything is amazing when sometimes it isn’t. ❤️
Today, we took £20.50 for the entire day.
And honestly… I’m feeling really sad about it.
I completely understand that we’re in a massive cost of living crisis. I know people don’t have spare money for treats, and I genuinely appreciate every single person who comes through our door.
Even if you just pop in for a chat, say hello, have a look around or tell me what you’ve been up to… I LOVE that. 🥹❤️
But the reality is, having a shop on the high street comes with a LOT of overheads.
At the moment, the only thing really keeping the shop going financially is my cake and custom orders. Which is amazing for my order book, but it has also made me question things.
I’m currently coming into the shop 6 days a week to open it, but the money coming in is basically going straight back out on ingredients, packaging, bills and whatever the shop needs.
I’ve never paid myself a wage. Not once.
Every penny goes straight back into the business.
And I’m at the point where I’m genuinely trying to figure out how I can make the shop work long-term.
Because if the majority of my income is coming from cakes and custom orders, I could technically stop opening the shop every day and just have it as a collection point… and that honestly breaks my heart because I LOVE my shop.
I love having somewhere that people can come and see us.
I love being on the high street.
I love seeing regular customers.
And I genuinely wouldn’t change having the shop for the world.
I just feel like the high street is SO quiet at the moment.
With the market gone and some of the bigger shops that used to bring people into town no longer being here, there just doesn’t seem to be the same reason for people to come into town anymore.
So… I’m asking for your help. ❤️
What could I do that would make you want to come into the shop more often?
I’m currently open:
🧁 Tuesday–Thursday: 11–4
🧁 Friday & Saturday: 11–6
🧁 Sunday: 11–4
I’ve signed up to Just Eat for deliveries and I’m currently trying to figure out delivery drivers, so if anyone knows anyone who does local delivery work, please let me know!
I’ve also started doing our Build Your Own Treat Station, where we can come to birthdays, weddings, parties and events with custom treats.
And of course, I’m still doing custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cookie pies and all the other bits you’ve come to us for. ❤️
I’ve thought about doing postal orders too, and that might be something for the future. But right now it’s just me. Until I can genuinely afford to employ someone and know that I can consistently pay them, I simply can’t take on even more work by myself.
On a happier note… HALLOWEEN IS COMING! 🎃
I’ve got everything ready and I’m hoping to have the shop all Halloween-ready next week, so I’m very excited about that!
I’m sorry this is such a long post. I honestly didn’t really know whether to write it, but I’ve always been honest with you all and I think it’s okay to admit when things are difficult.
I’m not asking anyone to spend money they don’t have.
I’m just asking for ideas, advice and a little bit of help figuring out what we can do differently.
If you have an idea for the shop, something you’d like to see us sell, an event you think we should do, something that would make you come into town, or honestly ANYTHING you think could help…
Please tell me.
Even if you think it’s a silly idea, tell me. 😂
And if you’ve ever walked through those doors, bought a cupcake, ordered a cake, shared one of our posts, recommended us to someone, or just popped in to say hello…
Thank you. Genuinely. ❤️
I love this little shop more than I can put into words. I just really want to find a way to make it work. 🥹❤️
