Sharpham Park

Sharpham Park Welcome to Sharpham Park, the home of British Organic Walnuts, where we champion British organic regenerative farming for a sustainable future.

With a commitment to our planet and premium quality, we nurture our orchards to produce the finest walnuts. At Sharpham Park we grow and mill organic spelt on our 300 acre farm on the Somerset Levels. We make flour in the traditional way by stone grinding it to protect the germ oils. We also make cereal, grain and pearled spelt, a delicious alternative to rice. Spelt is an ancient grain which is a

delicious alternative to conventional wheat. The grain has a unique gluten structure and our customers tell us that they find it easier to digest than modern wheat. It's highly nutritious, high in fibre and a tasty source of slow release energy, popular with athletes and explorers. You can find our delicious spelt range in supermarkets, delicatessens and farm shops or buy online at www.sharphampark.com.

🐝 World Bee Day at Sharpham Park

After a difficult winter for bee colonies, we sadly lost our bees.

Then, by chance, a swarm appeared in the old garden next door. spent hours carefully collecting them from the wisteria and bringing them back to one of our hives.

The moment the bees began fanning outside the hive, lifting their tails and beating their wings, it looked like the queen was safely inside.

For us, bees are not just about honey. They are part of the whole farming system, supporting biodiversity, organic farming, pollination and the future of British food.

Small creatures. Huge importance. 🐝

Happy Walnut Day 🌳

Long before they became known as one of nature’s most nourishing foods, walnuts were treasured by ancient civilisations and grown across monastery gardens as a valuable source of energy, protein and goodness.

Here at Sharpham Park, walnuts have their own place in our story. We grow British organic walnuts as part of our regenerative farming system.

Harvest is one of the most special moments on the farm. A reminder of why growing food here in the UK matters: for healthier soils, stronger local food security, more resilient farming and a deeper connection between what we eat and where it comes from.

From tree to table, every walnut carries a little history, a lot of care and a future we believe in. 🌍

Happy Walnut Day from all of us at Sharpham Park.

There was a time when English wine was considered a novelty. Now it’s world-class.

Could British walnuts follow the same path?

A recent Telegraph feature on the changing face of British agriculture highlighted how crops once considered impossible to grow commercially in the UK are beginning to thrive here, from olives to quinoa to walnuts.

At Sharpham Park, Roger Saul planted 300 walnut trees back in 2005, betting that warmer, drier summers could make British-grown walnuts viable at scale. Twenty years later, the estate is now producing organic walnuts that are creamier, fresher and more flavourful than many imports, with larger harvests still to come.

Walnut trees may have existed in Britain since Roman times, but commercial production here remains incredibly rare. As growing conditions shift, so too does the opportunity to rethink what British farming can look like.

Of course, climate change brings challenges alongside opportunity. This year we’re investing further into water harvesting across the estate to help protect the orchards through increasingly hot summers.

An exciting moment for British-grown food, and a reminder that some of the most interesting agricultural stories are only just beginning.

What does it mean to stay relevant over time?

For , it meant starting again.

After building Mulberry, Roger chose to step away and focus on organic farming at Sharpham Park, with a regenerative approach, rooted in soil health, sustainability and long-term thinking.

He’ll be speaking at The Founders Playground on 14 May 2026, a new kind of event designed to make the South West a destination for innovation and creativity.

This isn’t another conference. It’s a space where ideas are tested, challenged and built in real time. Where founders, creatives and communities come together to experiment without fear or judgement.

Roger will be sharing his perspective on building, stepping away, and starting again, and why organic farming, UK food security and how we eat matters more than ever.

Today is Earth Day, but for us this is the work every day.

At Sharpham Park, farming is about long-term stewardship, not short-term yield.

We farm organically, using regenerative principles, with no-till methods to protect soil structure and biodiversity. Our system is a mixed economy, where everything has a role and nothing is wasted.

Soil health underpins everything, from resilient ecosystems to nutrient-dense food and long-term UK food security.

Even the by-products from production, like walnut pumice, are returned to the land, feeding the trees that will produce next season’s crop.

It is a simple idea, close the loop, build soil, work with nature.

It’s hot cross bun season… but if you fancy something similar with a little more depth and crunch, try our Cinnamon, Date & Walnut Scones.

Made with wholegrain spelt flour and our Sharpham Park British Organic Walnuts, these scones are gently spiced, lightly sweet, and beautifully nutty. The dates bring softness, the cinnamon adds warmth, and the walnuts give that rich, earthy bite that makes them feel properly special.

Perfect warm from the oven with butter, or split and topped with cream and fresh strawberries.

Walnuts do more than taste good. They’re packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants, supporting heart health while adding texture and flavour that elevates a simple bake into something memorable.

If you’re baking this week, make it seasonal, but make it unique.
