As if it’s already close to midsummer, sorry if I missed the beginning. Almost six months in to 2026 and by now business would normally have slowed with the warmer months creeping up but you’ve made sure to keep us busy so far, perhaps with assistance from the climate. When Glasgow gives you drizzle, make delicious food and cake.. thanks for another weekend filled with reciprocal contentment, your support continues to humble us ❤️

So there was a brief and underwhelming heatwave recently but overall has this been the sh*ttest spring into summer phase for quite a while? Stiff competition in Glasgow I know, but putting the lamps on during the day and sticking a jumper on in the evening in June feels like a bit of a low in this age of climate catastrophe. Good job we’ve got a menu full of tasty stuff that your swimwear physique doesn’t need to worry about though: TAPS OAN! Give us a shout if you’d like to reserve a table, last weekend was mayhem from start to finish.. 🤪

GOOD EVENING! Picked a right stinker of a week to add to the workload didn’t we? Scorchio! 🌞 🥵 Yep, supper club tomorrow evening with the preparations already in motion and although we were fullly booked, we’ve had a late cancellation so there’s a table free for any last minute takers.. the front door will be well and truly open for the entirety if conditions are anything close to those that see me currently sitting at my back window, tap aff, melting like a smart price raspberry ripple. And remember, if anyone tries to convince you that having a hot drink helps to regulate your body temperature in this weather.. smile at them, calmly walk away and make a mental note to never see them again. Maniacs.

We’re having a bit of debate still at Soup’s On headquarters with regards to any potential time off next month, specifically with the World Cup in mind. I’m of the opinion that nearly everyone in Scotland will stay up to watch the 2am kick off for the Haiti game meaning the streets will at best be deserted the next day and at worst, filled with people who’ve been on the wagon since the previous evening. I still remember the 2002 World Cup in Japan & South Korea with games kicking off at about 7am, everyone just staggering around the streets and searching for kebabs by the afternoon. So what do you reckon? Will there be enough people who might fancy some restorative brunch or lunch the day after the inaugural game? 🍻

Sunday mornings are often fairly quiet in these parts and the peak times are also rather unpredictable so we decided to experiment and employ the little ginger sidekick for the whole day on a salary of snacks (and free lodgings, obviously). There’s never an optimum point for her to sneak away and be looked after for a couple of hours and the weather was looking unexpectedly clement which often adds to the tranquility. So of course it was the busiest Sunday we’ve EVER had. In fact, it was the busiest weekend we’ve ever had; we’ve done as much of a stint over the last couple of days as we used to do across five when we were a touch more conventional. Are we tired? To the point of delirium. Are we proud of what we’ve achieved this year? You bet. Enormous thanks to all of the regulars who show up week after week for a munch and often a good old natter when time allows, to the newcomers who continue to find us from near and far, the neighbours who help form our little community off the beaten track and finally to that wee gingernut who coped so well today whilst trying to take all of your orders.. hearts: warmed ❤️

As if you’re getting heartier plates of food in any other Glasgow cafe, we’re listening.. and that’s just the daytime weekend menu by the way, which brings us nicely on to the subject of May’s supper clubs. We’re looking at a wee breather and then Wednesday 27th currently as I reckon we’ve left it a little late for the 20th anyway (unless we’re inundated with enquiries). Anybody fancy stuffing their faces at a cosy, local BYOB supper club in leafy Cathcart? Give us a shout if so…

We haven’t taken any holidays this year with it not really having felt the right time to flit far away in light of all that’s happened lately but with the way we do things in general, and on the weeks we’re not hosting a supper club, we do get to enjoy some family time. This week we scuttled off to visit Penny’s Grandad & Grandma who live in a small village in Denbighshire called Llandyrnog - it would would be remiss of me not to be specific there as seemingly everyone in the village follows our adventures from afar, just another quirky aspect of our little cafe life. The weather even defied the forecast for some sunshine strolls, we made a celebrity guest appearance in the local shop for some re-fuelling, visited the for another lunch and finished off with our customary final evening dinner at one of our absolute favourites, which left us with smiles from ear to ear as usual. Back to the grind now after a dawn departure, the stock runs done on the way home and a trip to the polling station to perform our civic duty which took about two hours because let’s face it, we know much of the local population by name.. now on to the prep station first thing tomorrow morning, there’ll be a time to rest in the distance..
