That was another large one, people of greater Cathcart. Saturday in particular, but a shout out to everyone who simultaneously walked into the building at about 2pm today and occupied every single table whilst a load of take away customers also started ordering as if we were closing down for good when the sun set. I’m not complaining by the way, it’s a joy to behold (afterwards, when the ptsd has calmed). Once again, a huge thank you to every single person who crossed our threshold. Oh, sorry, apart from that one trout who walked out because we wouldn’t let them sit at a table for four to drink their coffee, on their own, at peak Saturday morning.. directly into the sea for you 😂

I was listening to an advert on the radio the other day with euphoric house music in the background, all reminiscent about the halcyon times of the 1990s, tales of parties in rural fields and how they then moved on to warehouses. It was for hearing aids. I guess the moral of this story, other than pointing out that some of us are knocking on a bit, is that life is short and you should really be popping out to allow somebody else to make your lunch from time to time.. and didn’t you all just do that over the last couple of days..

…back to back monstrous weekends since our return from a brief summer break, Sundays pretending they’re Saturdays and all sorts. To be fair, millionaire’s shortcake is effectively a class A drug in Scotland so there is that. We didn’t get out of the cafe until about 5pm today which is two hours after we technically close and about thirteen hours after we arrived on the premises before the sun rose this morning, we haven’t even properly cleaned up yet due to some absolutely exhausted limbs, mañana hey… nearly twelve years of this business and you continue to leave us almost speechless.. 🙏 ❤️

The serenity of a rare holiday, clouded by the irrational doubt that when you get back everyone will have found another culinary haven to inhabit.. nah, bo****ks, seemingly whenever we go away it’s as if we’ve turned the crack-tap off for a week or two and upon our reappearance you’re just waiting outside the cafe like a scene from 28 days later.. many humbled, very thanks, massive weekend ❤️

Massive menu changes were never on the cards for our return, we purposely spent as much time swerving the work environment as possible whilst on holiday albeit in a world where you’re never more than a notification away from being reminded that you haven’t permanently retired. But then we’ve always got quite an exciting menu ey, so no worries there.. the smash burger bacon chilli cheese bagel will arrive eventually. Wait. What did his inner-monologue just say?

That’s us back on home soil after a couple of family visits and an idyllic, sun-drenched week on the Isle of Wight; if I look particularly shell shocked the next time we meet it’s because I spent every day on that island watching the sun rise or set, enjoying sea view al-fresco breakfasts with my two girls, eating pub lunches, paddling my feet and strolling about spotting lizards & butterflies.. Enid Blyton might as well have bloody written our itinerary and it was quite possibly the most mentally medicinal break in as long as I can remember..

Re-opening this weekend for all of your brunch & lunch needs and an already almost fully booked supper club on Wednesday 19th (tiny table available as usual) with the potential for another the week after if required as we re-acquaint ourselves with evening dining after a break in the summer.. thanks for your gracious patience, our appreciation for your continuous support cannot be overstated and we looking forward to regaling you all with tales of our adventures.. ❤️

We’re taking a break. Ordinarily we would’ve already slipped away to recharge our batteries by now but such frivolity hasn’t really felt appropriate lately and hence we’ve found ourselves in August without having had so much as a week off in 2026. We’re beyond exhausted and we often worry you’re beginning to see it in our eyes. There’s some serious trepidation to be honest, what if pressing the pause button brings this fragile peace crashing down after seven months of hiding our heads in the sand that is our almost ubiquitous cafe life existence? And you might reasonably imagine your visits to see us are just a minor detail of day to day life but be assured, you’ve been some of the glue that has helped to hold this family together during the toughest of times; our appreciation goes without saying… catch you all once again on the other side.. ❤️
