With last weekend once again being stuffed so full with lovely visitors we almost feel a sense of betrayal in letting those who don’t already know that we’ve scuttled off for a bit of last minute vitamin D, both out of loyalty to our regulars but also like, shouldn’t we be riding this tsunami of popularity as if champion surfers?! But then I guess if one thinks like that, holidays never happen, memories are never made and life’s far too short for such shenanigans. We’re doing our usual routine where we flee the nest for foreign lands on a Monday before returning the following Thursday so as to only remain closed for one business week and plunge ourselves into the chaos of stock runs and prep as soon as our plane touches back down on the blustery Glaswegian runway.. what a privilege it is to be able to organise our lives like this, one we’ll appreciate for as long as is feasible. Much love to those so invested in our little adventures as to read this far and we’ll catch you on the other side of more all-inclusive eating and drinking in the space of 10 days than most health professionals would advise in a calendar year.. YOLO! ✌🏻 ❤️

Such was the fervour for last weekend’s adventurous new stew that I decided to slide it on to the supper club menu and hence we’ve got it back on again for the lunch crowd because, frankly, there’s only so much inspiration and stock organising one can manage. Besides, it’s belting. The Seoul II Soul is the new meaty showstopper for the next few weeks so let us know if you’re liking saucy, sticky Korean BBQ beef & noodles in a sandwich and prepare yourself because I reckon the Christmas feels are starting to emerge from hibernation.. I don’t make the rules (actually, yes I do and I love making ludicrous Christmas sandwiches). Fancy joining us this weekend? 😋

It’s been an unseasonal end to September, almost as if the climate is changing, but I think this will likely be the final BYOB supper club of 2026 that commences amidst swathes of sunshine. The summer evenings are lovely but the darker nights often make for a more intimate affair and with that in mind we reckon it might be time start gauging interest not just for the next couple of months but also, deep breath, the Christmas specials. It feels quite surreal for us personally to be discussing the festive season in light of the year we’ve had, but we’d be letting ourselves and our memories down by not putting on a brave face in December..

Those mischievous social media memories, reminding us we’d been sat on a near deserted beach in the Algarve witnessing the harvest moon this time last year as we audibly cursed at having not booked the September weekend off. “We’ll probably be quiet”, we mused. “What a wasted opportunity”. But alas, our musing was misplaced, as anyone who joined us may testify. Not gonna lie, still having the odd sneaky peek at some last minute winter sunshine escapes in the coming weeks but today wasn’t the worst way to spend a Sunday, even if it did feel like a rainforest inside our little cafe with the tables packed and the doors closed to ward off those torrential downpours. Thanks as always to all you regulars and a very warm welcome to what was a delightful influx of newcomers.. you just cannot beat that feeling of living up to expectations. Until next time Cathcart ❤️

We’ve been here a fair old while now and from time to time we ponder upon the idea of moving away somewhere new, starting a fresh adventure. It’ll happen one day, I’m sure.. I am knocking on a bit. But there’s an almighty obstacle in the way of any plans we might consider and that’s the hordes of lovely visitors we welcome in each weekend: you’re all much more friends than customers and I can’t quite imagine it being possible to recreate such an environment elsewhere, never mind how much we’d miss you all.. thanks for another weekend of making us feel special Cathcart ❤️

..oh sorry, you’re probably wondering WTF that picture is. Well, it’s a family of bums with arms, legs & faces who are simultaneously weeing, pooing and farting that Penelope Florence Connell produced for us last Saturday morning just before opening time. The text on the right hand side says “FART” for those of you who can’t read, though we’ve yet to establish for certain what that unsettling looking blue undercarriage is. She did this of her own accord and although I apologise to all of the other parents at nursery in advance for any influence she may sway, I’m definitely framing this one. Don’t ever dare try and tell me this an ordinary social media presence. Fancy a table at which to seat your own bum? (arms, legs & face optional - we won’t check 👀 )

Well that’ll teach me to talk of tasty meat batons ey? There was a point during Saturday lunchtime where sandwich toasting became something of a dangerous game of Tetris, slotting the variously shaped offerings into place on my panini grills whilst avoiding the napalm-like cheese pulls. I walked 15 kilometers around that tiny kitchen of mine between 4am and 5pm. FIFTEEN. Fuelled by a single piece of toast and half a coffee (a bastardo: a cortado that Anne makes me but she’s not allowed to smile during the process and ideally has to condescend me on the correct temperature at which to serve various caffeinated beverages whilst handing it over) that had been microwaved about six times. I should probably wear more sensible footwear than my sliders for such a shift, though I should also probably not wear shorts all year round whilst often carrying vats of boiling hot soup about too but the holiday clobber just seems to make it all flow a little bit more smoothly. As do you lot, of course, actually couldn’t imagine a more amicable set of folk to spend our working days with. What a cheesy bastard. See you next weekend. ❤️

Our toasted panini never take an Instagram-friendly snap but then I imagine the fact that I’ve actually just used the word snap might sum up our increasing irrelevance to the gram-thirsty zoomer world we live in. Who cares, this is one very delicious meat baton, the chilli beef & chorizo melt.. stick it in yer chops. Open from 10am, reservations recommended 😋
