closing of Ushi’s Coffee Corner
hello folks. some of you may know already but we’ve collectively made the decision to close Ushi’s Coffee Corner. our last day of service will be Sunday 21st of July.
to put it simply, it’s been really hard. being stuck in the city centre has felt very isolating and it’s really affected our morale and mental health. the place has remained relatively quiet since we opened 2.5+ years ago and we’ve made the decision that, with a break option available, that it would be better for us to close 182 West Regent Street.
i wish i could say “only for now! we’ll be back!!!” but at this stage we’re really not sure. it was a dream for me to run a q***r punk cafe bar that provided space for people to chill, to eat nice ethical food, to drink fun exciting drinks, to organise, to put on shows, to connect with other q***rdos in town. and we have done that and for that we are proud. but, the operational struggles have gotten to us unfortunately, and we never could afford to renovate either, so it’s left us with a decision to make.
thank you so, so much to the people who have shown us such deep love, respect and support during the whole experience. it is truly the thing that has kept us going. to the people who’ve come to shows anyway even when they were real quiet, to the people who’ve booked the back room and brought people together in a special space, to the q***rs who’ve found comfort in a place where they could be themselves ~ we won’t forget or take for granted the many gestures of community we’ve received from people. the lovely things people say, the vibe people bring, the experiences that wouldn’t have happened anywhere else. it’s why to do it, and as much as we will miss the little moments, they wont be forgotten !
still got over a month until the closing date (21/7) so please do stop by before then. we have a few events lined up, so there’s still time for some fun ~
