Have you ever wondered where the name Bathory Bakery came from? Let me tell you a story 👀
I watched a program on Netflix recently, Monster - The Lizzie Borden story. When the maid Bridget read a book to her i thought to myself, hmm that looks like Elizabeth Bathory. I was really surprised when i saw it actually was her 😅
Elizabeth Bathory was a hungarian noblewoman, who lived in a castle in the small village of Čachtice.
According to legend, she believed bathing in the blood of young virgins would preserve her youth and beauty - a chilling story that earned her the nickname “The Blood Countess.” 🥀
As i mentioned, she lived in Čachtice and that's where i'm originally from 😊 There is few places named after Bathory in the village, so it' very common. I thought it would be quite a unique name and not many people know who she is.
I used a cover of a book for this cake by Shelley Puhak, The Blood Countess: Murder, Betrayal, and the Making of a Monster
What do you think? Was she a monster, or was she a victim of political intrigue? 🤔
