It’s been a while since I last posted, but since we’re into a new month & new quarter too, I thought I’d explain my absence.. if you’re interested

We’ve had some personal stuff going off in the background, which hasn’t helped one bit
It’s been a trying time for us both, but as the saying goes, ‘when one door closes, another (better) door opens’ & it’s so true.. you never really know what’s behind that new door, but I can assure you, it’s definitely worth a peek

I’ll be honest, I’ve been struggling with some people’s attitudes lately & has made me reconsider some of my life’s choices
From attempts at bartering on price, like a quote is a ‘Vinted’ listing & then not understanding that something would need to come off the design to make the offered amount appropriate… to thinking it’s ok to take up someone’s time with meetings, tweaking quotes multiple times & then disappearing into the ether, not informing that they’ve booked someone else & having to find that out from the venue when you have to ask them if that particular wedding is still going ahead

It’s also proving very hard to deal with the disrespect from people not wanting ‘to pay THAT’ for a chair dressing, 5 minute wedding car journey or wedding cake
So much energy goes into the preparation & production of every part of a wedding.. but the contempt shown for certain skill sets & services is appalling really. In fact I’d go as far to say that it’s downright insulting

Don’t forget, cheap isn’t always good & good isn’t its always cheap.. true on so many levels.
It’s not just the product or service you’re paying for… there’s elements of experience, skills & priceless knowledge weaved in there too.. & not everyone has that level of experience to pass on
Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of couples I’ve worked & am working with who DO know the value of what we do.. are polite & appreciate for every part of our journey to their wedding day.. the number of disrespectful people was small, but sadly that number is increasing, & that’s what I’m struggling to deal with mentally & emotionally

The last few weeks of being boyfriend and girlfriend should be exciting, full of all the fun things like visiting your venue, doing the rehearsal, collecting your wedding dress!!
Not full of stress, angst and annoyance (which, let’s be honest we always take out on those nearest and dearest to us i.e. your husband or wife to be!)

You really do not want to be running around the day before your wedding trying to get hold of suppliers because they haven’t been in touch – you should be relaxing and enjoying your last day as a miss!

And the same is true for your wedding day, you want to wake up in the morning and feel excited, happy and ready to say “I do!” not worrying or stressing that your suppliers are not going to turn up and deliver what they promised.

Whatever you decide to order from us, we like to give you an experience that is enjoyable for you, and us, one where you do not have to worry, one where you can feel confident that everything will be done as agreed through the consultation and booking process.

Trust is a core value of what we do at Iced and Spliced because we want our couples to have a relaxed, enjoyable experience, not a stressed out and hectic one.
I love speaking with my couples throughout the planning journey and knowing that they know we have it covered so they can go and enjoy the whole getting married thing!

It’s that time of the year again…. No, not Christmas, the time I have to start thinking about new cake designs because the New Year Wedding Open Days aren’t too far away

The Beast, one of my all time favourite designs, went to the bakery in the sky earlier this year, so I’m looking for ideas on a replacement show stopper
Any suggestions?
Ideas on styles & colours, plus anything else that floats your boat are very welcome.. pop your thoughts in the comments, or send me a message with the cake design you’re thinking about as it may inspire me.. even mixing bits from a few different designs would work
So it’s over to you… blow my socks off

Continuing the theme of Open Days.. our first event of 2025 will be at Shottle Hall on Saturday 4th January, where we’ll be dressing the Orangery & the Barn.. already have some excellent ideas for that.

One huge tip to share with you when designing your Semi Naked Wedding Cake is your flavour choices.

Let’s say you want a dark chocolate layer in your cake.
The colour of the sponge would mean that you would have a dark layer in the visible part of the cake, which will have a huge impact on the way the cake looks.
Having the dark parts peeping out from under the buttercream makes that sponge look burnt… not the sort of impression you want to give!

With this in mind, I prefer to steer my couples away from this choice, or look about how we can build it in as part of the intentional design.

But don’t worry if your dream wedding cake includes a chocolate tier, as we can always include that flavour, but magically disguise it with a thicker layer of buttercream, so it sits nicely alongside the paler flavours you choose
