There’s something incredibly important about truly understanding what matters to a couple — not just the look they think they want, but how they want their wedding to feel.
This beautiful wedding at The RAC Club was the perfect example of that.
The couple came to me just five months before the wedding after feeling disappointed with the flavour of the cakes they had originally tried elsewhere. Once they received my sample box, everything changed.
After a long phone conversation, inspiration images and then an in-person design consultation, one thing became very clear: they wanted a timeless, elegant cake that truly reflected the style of the day.
Initially, the bride felt strongly that she wanted buttercream because she didn’t enjoy the taste of fondant. During our consultation, I explained that fondant is only ever a very thin outer layer — usually the smallest bite of the slice — and shouldn’t be the deciding factor if the overall aesthetic was important to them.
After our meeting, I created mock-ups in both buttercream and fondant so they could properly visualise the difference. Seeing the designs side by side made the decision easy. Fondant gave the refined finish that suited both the venue and the wedding styling beautifully.
And with Sunday becoming the warmest May day on record, it proved to be exactly the right decision.
This is precisely why I continue to offer in-person consultations and why I’m happy to travel to my clients. There is so much you notice sitting together that simply doesn’t come across over Zoom — the exchanged glances, the hesitation, the excitement, the unspoken preferences.
Designing a wedding cake is never just about the cake itself. It’s about guiding couples towards decisions they’ll feel confident and happy with on the day.
And yes — this level of care, time, expertise and personal service is one of the reasons my cakes are not inexpensive.
