So, I thought I’d explain it because I’m probably going to have it there for a little while yet!
A few weeks ago I had MoHs surgery to remove skin cancer from my head.
I originally thought it was Psoriasis but after treatment from the GP for this it didn’t get any better or go but got bigger and worse, but still I was told it was Psoriasis. Thankfully I have an amazing hairdresser AARON BAKER who spoke to a dermatologist on my behalf and encouraged me to go and be seen which I did and found out it was a basal cell carcinoma.
I’ve now had the cancer removed and, thankfully, the surgery itself has gone well. The area they had to remove was quite large and deep, so rather than closing it straight away, they’ve allowed it to heal naturally.
Which basically means… I’m going to be sporting this dressing for a while! 😂
It’s healing, but it’s a slow process, and I’m having to be patient while my skin does its thing.
So if you come to collect your cake and I look a little different, don’t worry — I am fine! 🤎
I also wanted to share this because if I’m honest, skin cancer wasn’t even on my radar.
I thought it was psoriasis.
And that’s the bit I really want people to take away from this.
If you have a patch, sore, scab, mark or anything on your skin that doesn’t seem quite right, doesn’t go away, heal or changes, please get it checked. Demand to be referred to a dermatologist because if I hadn’t taken myself to one I’d still be sitting here with it.
I’m certainly not sharing this to scare anyone, but if posting my rather unglamorous pics 😂 makes even one person think “Actually, I should get that checked”, then it’s worth it.
Thank you to everyone who has asked how I am, sent messages or simply carried on chatting to me about cakes while I look like this. I appreciate you all 🤎
