This year/summer has been a very difficult time with lots of heart breaking things happening in life hence why I've been very quiet on here.
I have been baking a few cakes here and there but I've just not had a chance to post them here. I will try catch up on cake posts over the next few weeks.

However, I nearly nearly missed that today is a very special day.

Today Kats Cakehouse officially celebrates it's 5th anniversary! ❤️

Five years ago today I officially opened my cake business. Never in my wildest dreams would I back then have imagined the huge amount of different and fun cakes you would ask me to create for you.
I haven't counted just how many but it's probably 400+ orders, counting anything from cinnamon buns, sandwich cakes to big novelty and wedding cakes.

I thank each and every one of you whom have placed orders with me or shared and told your friends about my cake business. I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the fun you've let me have by creating your fun designs.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️

Photo has nothing to do with cakes but as I've not posted anything here for ages I thought the photo of this wine I found in Sweden today explains very well just how I'm feeling at the moment... 😳

I had to rush off to Sweden quite urgently last week when someone in my family, whom I love very much, ended up very poorly and is still very poorly with no cure... Cancer is such a horrible disease. 💔

Thank you to anyone whom have messaged me over the past couple of weeks for your patience in my late responses. I very much appreciate your kindness.

I will be back in the UK this week so cake orders will resume as per normal on my return. 🥰

Last weekend it was our friends son's 21st birthday and we got invited to his celebrations. What do you buy a 21 year old for their birthday?
Well, we couldn't pop along empty handed so an hour or so before we headed over I made these individual lemon drizzle cakes, his favourite cake.

21 individual Lemon drizzle 🍋 cakes for the 21 year old!

Yes, they look plain as I only had an hour to make them but they tasted very lemony and nice.

It got me thinking, this is an idea you're more than welcome to ask me to make for any occassion.
You could have individual cakes like these, decorated nicely for your next party. Either forming a big tower of cakes or laid out neatly on a table.
They can be personalised as well, so you can have them as wedding favours or gifts for anyone.

This cake left my Cakehouse last week but I've been so busy I've not had time to post it until now. This is the cake I used my pottery wheel for to create these light up lanterns. Came out rather well if I may say so myself. 🤩

The cake itself is a red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream and covered in a very dark purple buttercream. The photos doesn't do the gorgeous colour justice.

I love making cakes for this customer and all of my customers of course 😉 but this one especially as I get told a theme, we do a little bit of design chat and then I get asked to just design something magical.
This cake I just knew I had to make actually light up, just as the lake scene in Tangled.

I used little micro lights inside the lanterns to create this effect. Looks fabulous!

How cool is this? For those who know me I've recently taken up pottery. I then saw someone making vases out of sugarpaste so I immediately had to buy myself a little pottery wheel.
The motor on it isn't quite strong enough but I still managed to make this lantern shape on the right after many attempts.
The left hand one was my very first attempt. 😊

Never give as eventually you'll succeed. Don't think it was the last time I've thrown with sugarpaste. 🤩

This weekend it was Clio's 10th birthday. I made this lovely girl her birthday cake last year as well and I'm so grateful you returned again this year. 🤩
This year it was decided on a dog theme as her birthday party would be a puppy party.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much fun I had creating all these dogs.
I use a slightly more expensive modelling paste, Saracino's, as it's so much easier to work with but the end result is also so much better.
Love all of these. ❤️

When I was responding to all of this week's cake enquiries last night I was flipping through my cake album to find one of my previous cakes to send to a customer as an example - and I realised just how many cakes I've made over the past 4.5 years since I opened my cake business. 😄🤩😍

I've deliberately been quieter this year with less cake orders as life has been more than difficult and my family has needed me - they always come first in my life and I've also needed to look after myself as well.

I'm so grateful to all my regular customers for coming back to me every year, some of you ever since I first opened my business. There's some cracking designs coming up over the next couple of months. 😎

If you haven't booked your cake order in with me yet, please do so as soon as possible as my cake slots for the summer months are starting to fill up. Four more cake orders were confirmed last night, some booked in for September/October already.

A lot of them word of mouth as I've not advertised a lot lately. Please keep recommending my little cake business to friends and family or on FB pages where suitable, I'm as always very grateful for your support.

The 2nd cake last week was this Lambeth style round cake for an 18th birthday.

The birthday girl wanted it in soft pinks with ribbon decorations.

Last weekend saw two cakes leave my Cakehouse.
The first one was for this repeat customer's son's 10th birthday.
A basketball theme was requested in orange and black so this is what I made.
Everything handmade and even the hoop and back plank of the basket was completely edible.

The cake was a Victoria sponge with strawberry jam and buttercream filling.
