British Sugarcraft Guild, Wellingborough Branch

British Sugarcraft Guild, Wellingborough Branch Mission Room, Well St, FINEDON, Northants NN9 5JP
7.30 - 9.30pm every 3rd Wed except Aug and Dec. We usually have a good time and more than a few laughs.

The Wellingborough & District Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild was started on the 20th May 1983 by Pat James who interested enough people into becoming a dedicated team starting a Branch in Northamptonshire. Our Committee has changed a good few times over the intervening years with each new Member injecting fresh ideas and fun into it which has left us the happy friendly group which we are t

oday. We are always ready to welcome Members and Visitors to our Branch Meetings where they can enjoy the Demonstration, refreshments and have a chat with other enthusiastic sugarcrafting people. Please do join us as a Guest Visitor – there is no obligation to join and it is a good opportunity for exchanging ideas and/or advice if you have a problem. If you are an Individual Member of The British Sugarcraft Guild and are quite local to our Branch why not come along and join us for the evening. We are based in the Mission Room, Well Street, Finedon, Northamptonshire, NN9 6JP and our Members come from the surrounding towns and villages in the area. Our Meetings are held every 3rd Wednesday of the month (except December) at 7.30 to 9.30pm. We currently have around 30+ Members who are enthusiastic sugarcrafters of all abilities – beginners to more experienced. The evening starts with a short business meeting followed by a Demonstration or perhaps a mini workshop, then we break for refreshments – cost 25p, for a cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate with, if we are lucky, a biscuit or slice of cake or two we also hold a raffle each evening. There is a door fee for Members of £1 per month with Visitors at £5 and of course our Raffle
Our Programme Secretary includes a wide selection of Demonstrations for us to watch which show all aspects of the Art of Sugarcraft. We also hold occasional workshops on a Saturday afternoon so that Members can enjoy a “hands on” experience and have the opportunity of trying out a new skill.

27th September 2025 we had a workshop in Wellingborough. We made Tuberose and The Bower of Beauty Jasmine. We had a fabulous day, mind you it was a busy one. but here is a photo of nearly all the flowers that were made, I see a few are missing....
A huge Thank you to Ann Ockenden who taught us, Glenda for arranging the venue, Gwen for sorting us all out. Glenda also made a Gluten free cake, Estelle brought a cake and I took in sausage rolls. We did take our own lunch and tea, coffee was available all day. I now need to make a few more flowers to fill my vase.
Thank you to all who attended and to those who were not able to come at the last minute, we missed you and are sorry you couldn't make it for various reasons.

Aah!! Sorry I haven't been on here for a while, but my husband is on palliative care at home and time is more than precious.
However, four of us Shirley (me), Gwen, Julia and Donna did a workshop at the Beautiful Rushden Hall last Wednesday afternoon with 17 ladies who made a small flower spray. I didn't know beforehand that most of these ladies had not done any sugarcraft before so I am really proud of all of them for creating these little sprays. 3 Arums, 5 leaves, 9 chilli peppers and 9 berries in a 2 hour slot. First a picture or few of Rushden Hall, a beautiful building and at lest 1 fabulously carved door - too wide for my house or I would have pinched it - well actually I would never have carried it, solid wood and very thick.
Here are the photos for you. xx some may be on there more than once - I got lost and forgot the number on the picture. Many thanks to Tracey at Rushden Hall for arranging this with us. We all enjoyed the day so much. Thank you Gwen for taking the photos and Thanks to Julia and donna for helping Gwen and Myself out. xx xx xx xx It is also on the Rushden FB page I believe. haven't had time to look yet.

Very sad to see that Eddie Spence MBE, the Master of Royal Icing has passed away (I think on the 3rd July) such a talented man he used to come to Wellingborough Branch with his first wife Betty, stay with Shirley and Brian C, while he either did a workshop or just did a demonstration. This was before he married Tracy of course and he was devastated when Betty passed away. Some years later Tracy came along, I don't know how they met but it was meant to be and they were so obviously happy together. Chris and I met them a few times at one Exhibition or another. I bought Eddie's book he signed it for me and when I got hold of it, it was naturally enough covered with royal icing on the back. He had been holding a piping tube while signing. Rest peacefully Eddie and Tracy said in one of her comments that he was probably teaching the angels to do piping on clouds of icing sugar - a lovely thought. xx

WEll, due to being ultra busy I got a bit behind with photographs to put on here for you all to see. Sorry about that but unavoidable. So first, we have a Sacred Lotus Flower demonstrated by the two Yvonne's, thank you you two it is beautiful and I understand was a fabulous demonstration. You will be doing it again 😘 Next there is a Peter and Jemima who were not quite finished on the night, another cute pair. then we have Gwen demonstrating the Eucharist Lily (Easter Lily for those of you who don't know) another fabulous demonstration. Also here is a photo of a cake I made for the late Chris Stanford's Mum who was 102. and a few days later a similar idea (cos I liked it) I made one for Gwen and Glenda who have birthdays on the same day, so at the committee meeting before they had this surprise. Last Saturday we had a fantastic Workshop with Ann O making the Rhododendron flowers, oh they were all so beautiful and in so many colours too. while we were all busy we were treated to Choir practise in the Church in the room next door. Quite a selection of music then there were the two girls who asked if they could come and see what we were doing while their parents were singing. I bet they stayed for half an hour absolutely fascinated while Ann was showing them "How to" Anyway, here are the photos that I took, you will see most of them twice but they were so lovely it doesn't matter. Then to finish the photos a rose that we did over two lessons, and the Crane's Bill flower from Alan Dunn in one of Pat Ashby's books. Most of the other roses, the larger petals couldn't be dusted so we have to wait for other pictures.
Thank you to Ann for such a really enjoyable workshop. Everyone enjoyed it - and just for a change it was SO QUIET most of the time.😂 thank you to those who came, we enjoyed your company. ###
I do have some more photos but need to transfer them from my phone to my email to a folder on the computer - no don't laugh!! it's the only way I can do it. Well, I suppose you will have to laugh.

Here is a small few of the Jemima Puddle-Duck and Peter Rabbit that our ladies had a go at recently. Some of the others didn't finish theirs (yet). Thank you ladies for bringing them in last week. Also we had done a few miniatures, mostly vegetables to go with the little creatures.
We are doing a large rose at the moment over 2 weeks. Will post photographs of them when they are finished. See you later...... ###
