Now that the sun is starting to show itself again and there’s a hint of spring in the air, I’ve found myself thinking about summer flowers all over again.
Soft, seasonal, and completely inspired by what’s growing around us.
Over the past year I’ve also been spending some time exploring another creative outlet alongside the cakes — especially the painted and edible flower cakes that many of you have come to know me for.
Baking and decorating has always been my way of expressing ideas through colour, texture and design, and painting directly onto cakes has become a big part of my style. But those same inspirations — Cornwall, flowers, wildlife and the natural world — have slowly been finding their way into drawings and patterns too.
Long before Red Robin Pantry, I studied ecology at university, and my love of nature has always quietly shaped the things I create. Over time that connection to wildlife and the landscape here in Cornwall has started to show up more and more in my artwork.
So over the past few months, alongside Red Robin Pantry, I’ve been quietly working on something new.
House of Morvoren.
Morvoren is the Cornish word for mermaid — a small nod to the coastal folklore that inspires many of the designs.
It’s a collection of illustrated homeware inspired by Cornwall and the wildlife and landscapes that surround everyday life here, launching on 6 April.
If you’d like to see what I’ve been creating, you can follow along over at
Red Robin Pantry isn’t going anywhere — I’m still very much baking and designing — but it’s been really lovely having another creative outlet alongside the cakes.
