Our Steve

Today marks 4 months since we lost Steve, and today myself, Sylvia, Paula (Steven’s mum and sister), Joe (driver Joe) and his lovely wife Vicki carried out dilapidations and handed the keys back to landlord for the bakery.
All of the equipment sold, this marks the end of Vegan Bay Baker.
It’s truly been the worst four months of our lives, the huge loss that Steve is, to his children, to myself, his family, friends and community. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has supported us, helped in anyway, bid in the auction, left kind comments, donated to the just giving, to those who have showed kindness and grace, and to those who attended Steven’s funeral.
As a family we have some plans to carry on Steven’s legacy and vegan bay in some way. We have thought about releasing a recipe book with his recipes, so even though VBB is no more, you can enjoy his bakes at home.
I also wanted to express our gratitude to Thainstone Auctions who worked incredibly hard, were so professional and who made the selling of Steve’s equipment really easy, and stress free for us. We genuinely would have been lost without their help. Thank you 🙏🏼

The Balmedie shop is still for lease if anyone is interested, and the bakery unit is too. Email me if you’re interested in either.

Morning everyone. We are doing an auction for the bakery equipment, it starts tomorrow it’s an online auction. I’m asking if people could please share this and tag anyone who may be interested. A huge thank you to the guys at Thainstone who have organised this so incredibly fast for us, we have to be out of the bakery unit in two weeks and they have been incredible at organising the auction. It’s obviously a very hard time for us as a family, it’s the worst situation for us to be in, so please if you can share the auction details 🙏🏼 thank you.

Sorry for the late post. I’ve had a really difficult week with selling all of the bakery equipment, truth be told I spiralled and haven’t been able to reply to anyone yet.
On Monday I will reply to every person who has emailed and organise viewing and collection. I’m so sorry about this, I knew it would be hard but I’ve really struggled. I’ll be in touch with everyone on Monday. So please don’t come to the bakery tomorrow. I will be in touch with everyone. Thanks for your understanding 🙏🏼

I finally have the list of things we have for sale. If you emailed me asking for an inventory of items, I’ve attached it below. If you could please email me at [email protected] if you would like to reserve anything. I will be at the bakery next Sunday morning 10-11 for folks to view and collect. Some items are already sold (massive mixer and the pie machine). Please share and tag anyone that you think may be interested.

My kind of town Peterhead

Tomorrow Steve will feature on the BBC Scotland show My Kind Of Town, this was filmed back in June and we remember so clearly how chuffed Steve was and how much it meant to him to be featured. The production team were impressed by Steve’s natural ability to be on TV, it was shot in one take and we nicknamed him “one take Steve” 🥹❤️
As a family we aren’t ready to watch it yet, but please watch it and remember our Steve ❤️ big thank you to the team at BBC Scotland who have been nothing but kind, understanding and so thoughtful during this time. The show will be on Iplayer tomorrow and BBC Scotland.

Hey everyone,
Firstly thank you so much for all the lovely comments, messages and support myself and my family have received since the sudden loss of my Steve, the last 5 weeks have been the hardest of our lives but all the kindness, generosity and support from everyone has been truly so so appreciated.

We are going to be selling the equipment from the bakery and shops soon, so if anyone is needing anything keep us in mind, I’ll be posting what we have to sell in due course.

Also, the Balmedie shop is available for lease, if anyone is keen on taking it on please let me know. It was such a busy shop and so gorgeous inside. The landlord is also incredibly nice, which is a huge plus for anyone taking it on, you’ll be in good hands. ❤️

Steve’s funeral will take place tomorrow at the Aberdeen Crem West Chapel at 11:15am. He is leaving our home where he is resting at 9:50am. If you so wish, please line the streets of Newburgh for him passing by. We will be leaving our home on Inch Road and heading towards Aberdeen as Steve will be going past Pittodrie at approximately 10:15am too. Steve’s funeral will take place on the 15th of August at 11:15am at Aberdeen Crem West Chapel.
All are welcome, it’s family flowers only please, but donations if so desired may be given at the Crem door for Willows Animal Sanctuary & Animal Assisted Therapy Unit and New Arc Wildlife Rescue, two charities very close to Steve’s heart.

Please come and celebrate Steve’s life with us, if you cannot manage there will be a live stream to his funeral (I will post this when I have it), and if people want to show their respects, please line the streets of Newburgh, or outside Pittodrie. He will be leaving from our home where he will be resting.

For Steve’s funeral we are asking for people to wear anything Leeds United, or Leeds colours.

Thank you to everyone for your support, generosity, kindness and respect during this time. It’s truly been unimaginable the loss of my Steve.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sent such beautiful messages about my Steve. We have had to set up a just giving for his funeral, and for our kids. As you can imagine, I am completely overwhelmed and I feel powerless. There’s absolutely no pressure to donate, just thought I would share on here if anyone wanted to donate.

I am deeply saddened to announce the sudden and unexpected death of my beautiful husband Steven. As you all know, Steve was the Vegan Bay Baker, following his death, our business has ceased trading. I ask you all to keep us in your thoughts as we go through this, myself, our children and his mum and dad. It’s pain I’ve never felt before and I am broken. I want to thank everyone for their support and understanding.
Steve leaves behind myself, and his three beautiful children Lilly, Phoebe and Paddy. I am asking for some privacy at this time, and for people to please respect that. I will share funeral details in due course. I am absolutely broken, Steven was my entire world, we started this business together in our home and I know so many of you adored him. He really did bring so much light into our lives. We already miss him so much. I love you so much Steve. 15 years we’ve been together, my soul mate, my best friend, my whole world.
