Folks, I'm heartbroken to tell you that the shop will be closing. I don't have a date yet as we're to find new tenants, but we'll be putting it up to let next week all being well.
The markets will continue and we've got Paisley Vegan Festival happening tomorrow to get excited about also.
The shop will be open through August but it's unlikely that I'll be taking bespoke orders.
Missy's was created to support our family and allow us the flexibility to home educate our 2 children. It was also created as an activism- anything you can do, we can do vegan! Never capitalist, always DIY. We taught ourselves to bake and decorate, we imported fake meats and cheeses from Germany, we supported local artists during COVID, we've flown the flag of veganism all over Scotland and the North of England, we were voted the best cake in the UK in 2018! We've been proud to create cakes for famous people but even more proud to serve our community right here in Edinburgh.
In all of that we've never taken more than a half wage and never grumbled (well, only a tiny bit), because it has been worth it.
Every fu***ng minute of it.
Missy's has always been for something bigger and greater than ourselves.
To be candid 12 and 1/2 years is a long time to put towards something that you love and believe in without financial gain or anything to fall back on.
Now that we're middle aged we both feel that it's time to do something different with our lives. Something more secure.
Yes, we could have turned Missy's into a larger, more capitalistic venture, but we liked being grassroots. After all, we're just people who decided to do a thing.
I didn't mean for this to turn into such a long post but I feel that you're all our friends and we owe you at least an honest and reasonable explanation for our decision.
