Dear customers

A huge apology if you tried to come last week and found us closed. I have been ill again.

As a result, we have decided that, while I tackle my health issues, we will close for three weeks and re-open on the 10th of October with a whole range of lovely breads, including sourdoughs, and cakes and pastries for autumn. We will be welcoming our new baker, Stacey, who will be bring a whole range of new ideas and skills to the bakery.

We will also be taking the opportunity to review our business and operations model to improve the service.

We hope to see you again in October.

Once again, apologies. Kind regards and thank you for being our customers.

Believe it or not, the chocolate cake just got BETTER! Jenny has been 'playing' with ingredients and come up with an even more delicious cake. It is now rammed with 70% real chocolate and topped with a creamy chocolate ganache, again using real chocolate blended with natural yoghurt. And, there's more. The cake uses less butter and the result is heavenly. A rich, intensely chocolaty cake that makes your taste buds smile with pleasure. Just pop in to the Bakery to buy yours before it's all gone. If you would like to order a whole chocolate cake, drop by the bakery or call 01323 573084

For the love of baking

Part 5

Imogen has already learned how to make the Bakery’s divine chocolate cake, including the ganache, which is made using only the best quality chocolate.

“Scones”, Imogen says, “are more difficult than you’d think. Getting the ingredients right is not the full story. The process is important. Scones must not be over worked otherwise they lose their lightness”.

The History of the Cream Tea

“Cornish clotted cream - the food of the gods”
William Gladstone 1809 – 1898

According to the Cream Tea Society (yes there really is one), Britain’s love affair with tea began when Portuguese Catherine de Braganza married Charles II in 1662, bringing the custom of drinking tea at court with her and making tea popular worldwide.

By the middle of the 19th century, afternoon tea was an every day occurrence; a spread of sandwiches, cakes, scones, cream and jam – the first hint of cream teas as we know them today.
