πŸ’œπŸ’› NEW & IMPROVED : BEESWAX PACKAGING πŸ’›πŸ’œ

Dear followers,

As you all know, these past few weeks have been tumultuous and challenging, both for us, and for you, our consumers. At Bread and Brews Fourward, we are determined to use these recent events as a learning experience to help us figure out what we can do to reduce the risk of a similar contamination in the future.

That is why we developed a new and improved bread packaging design, made out of recycled paper coated with beeswax. This new packaging ensures that your bread retains its tantalising crunch and heavenly fluffiness for much longer, and serves as an even more effective protective barrier against bacteria.

Once again, we thank all of you for standing by us as we navigated through these difficult weeks together. We hope you will continue to enjoy our products as we grow and learn from this situation, and tirelessly work to improve our company and our products, one step fo(u)rward at a time πŸ’œπŸ’›

Dear followers,

We are organising a press conference this upcoming Friday, 24 November at 12.30 PM in the Angus Centre for Enterprise on Keptie St, Dundee.

During this press conference, we will provide more information about the investigation we conducted with the NHA, as well as share the results of the inspection of our logistics and distribution partners.

We want to use this press conference as an opportunity to give a complete explanation of how our Unicorn Bread became contaminated with Serratia marcenses, and to outline what we will do to avoid similar issues in the future.

For more information, please contact our Communication Manager Cory Dalziel at +44 1346 594873 or [email protected].

β€Ό IMPORTANT UPDATE β€Ό

Dear followers,

We have a very important update concerning the contamination of our Unicorn Bread.

Yesterday, our laboratory team concluded the bacterial analysis of our Unicorn Bread samples. The results of this analysis indicate that multiple loaves of Unicorn Bread were affected by the bacterium Serratia marcescens. You can find more information about this bacterium at the end of this post.

Together with the NHA we were also able to conclude that the contamination with Serratia marcenses did not take place during the production process. A thorough review of our bakery sites showed that our dough and bread were always stored in controlled conditions, and that baked loaves were never exposed to conditions that would allow for an S. marcenses contamination to take place.

We are therefore conducting an additional inspection of our logistics partners and distributors to discover where exactly the contamination of the Unicorn Bread took place.

We thank you for your patience as we work on this final investigation. We will share more information with you as soon as soon as we conclude our inspection.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call our consumer hotline at +44 1212 603603or contact [email protected].

Below you can find a short description of Serratia marcenses and its effects. Visit https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/laboratory-biosafety-biosecurity/pathogen-safety-data-sheets-risk-assessment/serratia.html for more information.
Serratia marcenses is a bacterium that causes food spoilage, discoloration and off-flavours in food products such as meat, fresh produce, dairy products, and bread. Symptoms of a Serratia marcenses infection can include fever, nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. S. marcenses affects bread that is stored improperly in a damp environment and can cause red spots to appear on the bread.

Dear followers,

We are happy to share that Elizabeth Wilson and her grandchild have made a full recovery from their illness. Ms Wilson and her grandchild were hospitalised on 23 October after consuming Unicorn Bread, but they have since made a smooth recovery thanks to the skilled care of the Ninewells Hospital staff. They were discharged earlier today and suffer no lasting health effects.

We also have a positive update about the 24-year-old couple who fell ill on 26 October. They did not need any further medical care and have since recovered as well.

We are maintaining close contact with all people affected by this contamination to discuss what Bread and Brews Fourward can do to support them. In addition, we are taking the symptoms and experiences of those affected into account in our investigation of the contamination.

Thank you again for your continued support and trust as we investigate this issue. We estimate that our laboratory tests and production assessments should be completed by November 10. As soon as we receive the reports we will share more information with you.

Dear followers, we have a very important message to share with you concerning our Unicorn Bread. Please read this post carefully.

On Sunday 23 October, a woman and her grandchild were hospitalised after eating Unicorn Bread. We suspect they may have become unwell due to a potential bacterial contamination.

We have therefore decided to issue a nationwide recall of all Unicorn Bread sold between 15 and 22 October. If you purchased any Unicorn Bread within this timeframe, please return it to your local distributing seller immediately. You will receive a full refund.

We want to express our deepest apologies to the people affected and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this recall. Bread and Brews Fourward is working together with the NHA to figure out the nature and cause of this contamination as soon as possible. We hope you will continue to stand by us as we work to resolve this issue.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our consumer hotline at +44 1212 603603 or email our customer service at [email protected].
