Throwback Thursday to 2011.
In 2018, Real Bread Campaign action resulted in the Advertising Standards Authority and trading standards forcing Pret to remove the word ‘natural’ from their logo and banning them from making misleading claims like those pictured.
(Pret’s defence had included protesting that they advertised ‘avoiding’ - rather than not using - additives, and that the ones they used weren’t ‘obscure’ but widely used by many processed food manufacturers...)
This work took an age as many food marketing terms including ‘natural’ have no legal definition, so the case rested on official (but non-binding) guidance.
We believe that that bakery marketing terms such as freshly-baked, wholegrain, sourdough, artisan, and heritage should be defined in law and their use regulated.
If you agree, please visit our website to JOIN the Real Bread Campaign to support our continued fight for an Honest Crust Act of improved bread composition, marketing and labelling regulations – and the rest of our work. www.realbreadcampaign.org
Then PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD to encourage everyone you know to do the same.
