We’re heading into our 2nd week of school and I wanted to throw back to these sugar cookies I made as a thank you for to my daughters pre-school. She’s settled into school really well. I can’t wait to make these again as a thank you gift for the teachers.

I took this cake to the market last month and it didn’t even make it out of the box! It was my signature chocolate fudge cake with a caramel blond filling covered in a white chocolate and caramel ganache. I used some caramel waffle pieces to decorate as well as a caramel drip.

As luck would have it another stall holder came over as I was setting up and bought the whole cake. Which considering I didn’t do well at the market that day I’m glad I took that risk and sold it.

But that does leave me to question whether I should be doing markets. I’ve not had the best luck with the last few that I have been to. As my product is perishable it’s not something that will role over for a week to sell again. As my markets are on a Saturday I can’t offer out for postal as they wouldn’t be delivered until Tuesday which is nearing the end of the high quality product that I produce. I’m reluctant to ‘discount’ towards the end of the day at the market as I don’t want people to only turn up at the end of the day to ‘grab a bargain’.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I have loved going to markets to see people enjoying my products and it’s a chance to experiment with new bakes. I’ll be taking the summer off the markets to take stock and decide if it’s something I still really want to do.
