I was invited to try out Poly-Dowels, I had used them before but only for the central dowel when I needed one running through the tiers. I was asked for my honest opinion and here it is. The reason I'd never used them before for stacking a cake was because I didn't know how best to cut them to length, who knew that a pipe cutter would do the trick perfectly. I bought my cutters from Screwfix for £9 and it cuts them perfectly flat! I will do a video soon showing how to cut them - it really is easy. I used the 16 inch Poly-Dowels and cut it to length for dowelling the bottom tier. You only need four Poly-Dowels in the bottom tier plus a centre one, the four need to be arranged in a square format to give the correct stability required for stacked cakes.
I then used square dowels in the middle tier, again in a square format, these were the Blue Square Dowels by Cake Craft Company.
I'm completely honest when I say this - I have never felt so confident about the stability of a stacked cake before and how level it was. Is this purely a coincidence? I will know tomorrow when I stack the next cake, but I'm assured it's not. It's due to the design - the shape and inner channels. When I put the Poly-Dowels in the bottom tier I said to myself 'they fit beautifully'!

Congratulations to Lauren and Ian who were married on Saturday at Makeney Hall Hotel.
Lauren & Ian wanted an autumnal look to their cake, so they had handmade pumpkins and autumnal sugar leaves, along with the acorns, mushrooms and cute Fox, Grizzly Bear and Rabbit. Everything is handmade and edible.
