It was a pleasure to support the Crickhowell Fire Station with a well deserved meal, especially after what has been an incredibly busy few weeks of near constant fire call outs 🔥

We supplied the focaccia and brownies, but this was very much a community effort. A huge thank you also to F E Richards of Crickhowell for the lasagne, [book-ish] for the drinks, and Natural Weigh for the snacks 🙏🫶

This was a small thank you from some of Crickhowell's local businesses to the team who have been working so hard to keep our surrounding countryside safe ❤️

It's been a hard week! Not just for us getting back up to pace after our holiday, but for the entire community, whether that has been for the families occupying the children during what has been a sweltering half term break - they come into our shop and children being children, they immediately want all the goodies requiring some very firm but assertive parenting responses 😆

Like the other local businesses, we have been preparing for service next week for the Green man festival, which for us we will be open for the first time tomorrow on a Monday to cater for that demand. If the demand is there, we will open Tuesday too. It will be a lot for us as our first week back was exceptionally busy, so tomorrow will be a little more relaxed. We might not have everything ready for 9am like usual, but let's see if our regulars get in before Green man festival goers arrive and start their wander up to the high street ;)

And let us not forget the relentless efforts and service of those at Crickhowell Fire Station (as well as the farmers!) who have worked non-stop to combat the recent wildfires. 🔥🔥 Hopefully, they are beginning to ease up now, but as a gesture, we will be preparing some baked goods to take up to the station for their drill night on Wednesday. We understand that there are 11 on shift Wednesday night, but if any of our fellow local businesses would like to add to that with other drinks etc, then please let us know and we'll hopefully make it a bit of a feast for them. They more than deserve it 🙌 🫶

After our week away, it was so lovely to be back on Saturday! ❤️ (Even if we probably could have done with a few more days recovery 😅) A huge thank you to everyone who came in and gave us such a warm welcome back :)

We're back to business as usual from 9am tomorrow, with all the usual freshly baked breads, pastries, focaccia and treats.
And for our gluten-free customers too, we'll have:

Gluten-free Breakfast Bread
Gluten-free Brownies
Gluten-free Ricciarelli Biscuits

We've been especially pleased with the response to our GF Breakfast Bread, so we're going to keep working on and gradually developing our gluten-free range alongside everything else we bake. Today we tested a pesto and parmesan bread using polenta and rice flour. It was lovely but we want to trial it some more with olives and sun-dried tomatoes before we're happy to debut it. I can also neither confirm or deny that Magda has been researching her own gluten free pastry based creations 👀👀

Managed to find a local bakery on second attempt and get some lovely baked produce 🤤 the irony after we made an initial visit a few days earlier and they were already sold out was not lost on us 😂

Remember, we will be open tomorrow from 9am and then again on Wednesday.

These will be our last trading days before we open again Saturday 8th August.

Tomorrow we will also have available the gluten free breakfast bread, as well as gluten free brownies. See you then :)
