The cottage industry is based in Balsall Common village near Coventry and caters to cake lovers locally

and within the West Midlands and Warwickshire areas. Angela Jones, founder of AJ’s Classic Cakes, is passionate about providing delectable cakes to whet your appetite. Experience home baked cakes that not only look and smell delicious but are sure to satisfy with every bite! Angela says,

“I want us all to enjoy traditional, flavoursome teatime cakes which we savoured as children. There is nothing more enjoyable than having afternoon tea in calming surroundings, served on pretty china, with spotless white tablecloths and napkins. Sheer Heaven!”

It is important that a cake looks and tastes delectable – there are no half measures. AJ’s strongly believe that good quality ingredients, a well-balanced recipe and tender loving care goes into making beautiful cakes. As ingredients are an important factor, AJ's use a good quality butter, locally sourced free range eggs, full fat milk and cream, and fresh fruit and vegetables whenever possible as these add a natural sweetness and moisture to the bake. All cakes displayed in The Cake Shop (www.ajclassicccakes.com) have gone through an extensive process to ensure they look presentable and taste delicious. To this end, AJ’s have used the services of local Taste Testing Teams to ensure the Bakers high standards are met. AJ’s Classic Cakes provide a personal service to everyone irrespective of whether the customer wishes to purchase a box of cakes from The Shop or by placing a bespoke cake order. All cakes are freshly baked to order, gift wrapped and hand delivered by us to ensure the cakes arrive in good condition at a time that is mutually convenient. The business is registered with Solihull Borough Council and a Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering has been successfully completed to ensure hygiene standards are maintained.

This party box contains a small gluten free Lemon Drizzle loaf (1 lb), 12 gluten free Vanilla Butterfly Cakes and 16 squares of gluten free Chocolate Fudge Brownie topped with chocolate ganache and fresh raspberry.

Lady Luck has shone on me!

I am so proud to have received two further Great Taste Awards this year - One Stars for my gluten free lemon celebration cake and vegan gluten free chocolate heaven celebration cake!

Since 2018 I have had the good fortune to receive one or more Great Taste Awards each year to date.

Smashing!

I thought I would try out my new mini loaf silicone mould to prepare some mini lemon drizzles. I’ve never used a silicone mould for my cakes before and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

Very little grease was required for each cavity, the mini loaves baked well, popped out easily and let’s not forget that the mould was very easy to clean!

It’s a winner 👏❤️

Here is my latest creation - the Lemon Celebration Cake (vegan, gluten free, soya free, nut free) that is allergy friendly.

The 8 inch round cake comprises of three layers of lemon sponge, filled with lemon frosting and lemon marmalade, more lemon frosting to cover the cake and decorate the top alongside homemade candied lemon segments.

This is such a lovely, zesty flavoured cake perfect for a special gathering or birthday treat 🍋😍
