The Cambrian Rally is back this weekend! 🏁 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

We'd like to welcome the rally and everyone coming to the area to enjoy this event on Saturday. It's great to see motorsport bringing visitors to North Wales and supporting local businesses.

We want everyone to enjoy the rally, but safety must come first - both on and off the stages.

Our teams including GoSafe, will be on duty throughout the event and we ask everyone to play their part in keeping the roads safe.

Spectators are reminded to drive responsibly. Don't get caught up in the excitement or try to imitate what you see on the stages.

Public roads are not rally stages. The roads remain in everyday use, and your actions can put other road users, spectators and local communities at risk.

Enjoy the rally, support the event and respect the communities hosting it 💙

Sadly, a man has died following a fatal road traffic collision on the outskirts of Bala, Gwynedd last night (Thursday, 15th October).

At 7:35pm police received a 999-call reporting that a two-vehicle collision had occurred on the A494 in Llanuwchllyn involving a black BMW 240i and a black Mitsubishi L200.

The emergency services attended, however sadly the driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital by ambulance.

Detective Sergeant Liam Morris of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses. He said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this difficult time, and everyone affected by this devastating incident.

“We are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging anyone who may have information that could assist our investigation to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw the BMW being driven in the period leading up to the collision. If you were travelling along the A494 near Llanuwchllyn last night and witnessed the vehicle, or if you have dashcam footage that may assist our enquiries, please get in touch.

“Even information that may seem insignificant could be important to our investigation.”

The driver of the above vehicle was dealt with today with assistance from colleagues from the Armed Alliance and Priority Crime Team.
Not only was the drivers licence provisional only, he had no insurance and had been wanted on a recall to prison since 2015!
He has just been collected from custody and is on the way to prison.

📱 🚔 Dim ein galwad arferol / Not our usual call...

Yesterday morning we received an alert from Vodafone regarding a mobile phone activation on the A5025 on Anglesey, which appeared it was linked to a serious road traffic collision.

One of the team attended to make sure everything was ok, only to discover a slightly different story...

The phone had been left on the roof of the car, and had fallen off along the way.

Thankfully, there had been no collision and the phone was safely recovered and returned to its owner 👏🏼

A lucky escape for the phone - and a good reminder that it's always worth checking the roof before setting off 😊

We recently stopped more than 30 vehicles and issued tickets and graduated fixed penalty notices for a range of road safety offences as part of Operation Tramline.

The operation, which uses an elevated HGV cab to give officers a better view into vehicles, has once again highlighted the dangerous behaviour taking place on the roads of North Wales.

Amongst the offences detected on the A*5, the A483 and the A494 earlier this month were drivers using mobile phones behind the wheel, drivers failing to wear a seatbelt and vehicles carrying insecure loads. We continue to see mobile phone use among drivers of larger vehicles including HGV’s and LGV’s.

It's disappointing that we continue to see drivers putting themselves and other road users at risk through behaviour that is entirely avoidable.

When you're behind the wheel, your attention should be on the road. A phone call, message or notification can wait. Your safety, and the safety of everyone else using the road, cannot.

🚓 Don't risk it. Don't drive impaired 🚨

Shortly before 11pm last night (Monday) one of our team members who was on routine patrol in Menai Bridge, stopped a vehicle after spotting a defective rear light.

The driver, a 45-year-old local man gave a positive breath test and also tested postive for cannabis.

He was arrested and taken into custody. His evidential breath reading was subsequently just below the legal limit, meaning no futher action was taken for drink driving. However, he was released under investigation in relation to the positive drugs test pending the results of further tests.

🍺 The message is simple - if you drink or take drugs, don't drive.

Your decisions behind the wheel can have consequences far beyond a night in the cells. You could seriously injure or kill someone.
