A little quieter around here lately… 🤍

There’s been rather a lot going on behind the scenes over the past few months, which has meant that my corner of the internet has had to take a bit of a back seat. I know I haven’t been very present, so I wanted to say hello again and introduce myself to those of you who are new!

Hi, I’m Monica 😊🤍

I’m still very much here. Still baking, creating, pinning far too many beautiful cake ideas to my moodboards, and still completely in love with what I do.

I have a collection of gorgeous designs from earlier this year that are very belatedly waiting to be shared, so there’s lots coming your way over the next few weeks, along with some very exciting upcoming creations that I can’t wait to show you.

Despite being a little quieter than usual, the diary is very much open! Thank you to all of the couples who have already secured their dates for 2027 and 2028 (yes, 2028!) There really is no time like the present to secure your favourite suppliers, so don’t hesitate if you’re looking to make an enquiry. Checking whether I’m available for your special day comes with absolutely no charge!

So, if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been… I’m still here. Just juggling a little more behind the scenes than usual, and I’m so excited to share what’s been going on with you all.

6 years of Munro Bakes! Happy Birthday to us! 🥳

I always find the anniversary of my business so very bittersweet.

2020 was the year that my husband and I were due to get married. We got engaged in October 2018 and set a date for 20th June 2020; we loved the numbers! We also wanted a summer wedding. Like many other couples, we had planned 99% of our wedding by March and had paid deposits to several suppliers. Unfortunately, we were one of those unlucky couples whose wedding was cancelled, and we lost many of our suppliers as they couldn't keep their businesses afloat. Our baker was one of them.

(If you haven't yet purchased wedding insurance, you NEED to do it now! We were so lucky that we did, all thanks to my sister-in-law, who told us how important it was. I'd never even heard of it before 🙏).

We rescheduled our wedding to 2021, but restrictions were still in place, meaning we couldn't have all of our immediate family there, so we pushed it back again to 2023 and had our son in the meantime.

I struggled to find a baker like our original one. We paid a deposit to another local baker whose work looked gorgeous, but we didn't really enjoy the samples. I'd always loved baking as a child, but I'd never decorated a cake and hadn't the foggiest idea where to start! I jokingly said to my husband that perhaps I could make our wedding cake if I learned how to decorate. I wasn't serious in the slightest, but being the supportive husband he is, he simply said, "Why don't you?"

Anyone who knows me knows I love a challenge,and I'm not very good at giving up 😂.

During lockdown, I spent so much time trying different recipes, including the flavours we'd chosen during our tasting session with our original baker. There was a steady supply of cake heading out to friends, family, and our lovely neighbours, who taste-tested everything for me. I spent hours watching tutorials, researching techniques, practising, and making SO much cake before I eventually realised I could have been using dummies to practise all along!

Editorial weddings 🤍✨️

It was such a joy working with Nadia and Shane on their wedding cake. From the moment we started chatting, I could tell they were a lovely couple with a clear vision for their day. Together, we created a three-tiered Lambeth-inspired vintage wedding cake, complete with black detailing and satin bows that tied in beautifully with their wedding’s colour scheme. The addition of a 'Forever' black acrylic on top was the perfect finishing touch.

One of my favourite parts of their day was the idea of two cake-cutting moments with Nadia’s two stunning dresses. Such an original and beautiful way to mark the different moments of their celebration, and it was amazing to see the photos from these two gorgeous moments.

Everything about their day felt so thoughtful, and their kindness and warmth made it such a pleasure to be a part of it. Their photos capture not only their beauty on the outside but also their wonderful, genuine hearts. It was an absolute honour to be a part of their special day, and I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to help bring their vision to life! 🤍

When it comes to wedding cakes, it’s all about breaking the rules and pushing the boundaries of creativity. This stunning masterpiece is hands down the most incredible cake I’ve ever had the privilege of creating! 😍

A truly enchanting wedding at Gosfield Hall 🤍

Every detail of Sarah & Ashraf’s day was pure magic, from the grandeur of the venue to the soft whispers of florals cascading down their cake.

It was such a pleasure to be part of this beautiful celebration, working with a couple who knew exactly what they wanted; delicate yet impactful.

The three-tier cake, wrapped in textured buttercream and adorned with soft hues of lilac, blue, and cream, was the perfect fit for their timeless, romantic theme.
